Iphone 3Gs Camera Resolution

Hey everyone-I have the 3gs and the tech specs say that the camera is a 3m in picture size, but every picture I take, they come in at 600 X 400...how can I change the settings or whatever to get the pictures back up to 3m?

There are no settings to change that I am aware.
