Very poor battery life since 3.0.1

Hi everyone,

I bought a 3GS around one, two month before. it was running on 3.0
Then battery wasn't lasting very long, around one day of full utilization (2 hours game, many mails/internet, music all day long at work, etc ...)
And then, since my update to 3.0.1, my iPhone autonomy fell to around 3,4 hours of standby, yeah great i admit it could be worse.

The best part is that the battery level became completely nonsense : 20 minutes of standby, 100%=>50%, and then 20 minutes more =>20%, and then 20 minutes more back to 90% ....

The point is : Ok it's fun, but that not what i was after when i bought that piece of geeky stuff. After having searched on internet, it seems i'm not the only one having that tremendous problems on 3GS since 3.0.1 ...

No 3.1 update since then, is there anything official communication on this problem ?
What should i do ? send to repair ? get a new one ?

My iphone 3gs is legally unlocked which I bought in Hong Kong last month. Everything works fine until I upgraded the 3.0.1 software. The battery thou, fully charge 100% drains very fast even on a stand by mode. I tried everything from turning on/off. I even removed some apps but still the battery seems to be acting strangely. I hope apple is reading all our problems and sentiments. It would be great to know if the problem will be address soon or better yet upon the release of the 3.1 software.

I'm guessing you didn't give it a full 8 hour charge when you first bought it?
Has your battery ever heated up greatly before? My last iphone 3gs used to do that, and after that the battery life became abyssmal and could only last barely under a day. My new iphone 3gs can last about 1 and a half days with music playing and normal usage.

in fact i did.
Almost always used until it shuts off, always charged it to 100%.

I am having this same problem now.
The iPhone has been restored last week (as a "new iPhone", with no backup after that), and everything works fine, but today I saw a weird behavior of the battery indicator: it was 44%, then after two minutes dropped to 20%, now it's 43%... I haven't used the iPhone at all.

Having same battery issue after upgrading to 3.0.1

Was charging the phone untill 2 AM, plugged off at 100% and turned WiFi and notifications etc. off, went to bed. Woke up at 7 AM and phone was at 5% battery. This is ridiculous.

PS: bought my 3gs 1 week ago

either you have a really bad battery or an app was still running? charge to 100% again, after you disconnect, hold the power button untill the red "slide to power off" comes on, then hold the home button down untill the home screen appears. see what % of battery you have in the morning. if still the same, i would take it back. ive never heard of the battery draining that much in so little time on stand-by.

I have the exact same problem. Very erratic battery meter since last weekend. It'd drop by 10% suddenly, then went back up for a few mins, then dropped by 10+% again.
It happened about 1.5mths ago when I just got the phone. Did a few full discharge/charge and it was OK. But last weekend the same problem came back. Phone will only last 3hr of use.

I've did a restore (from backup) and full discharge/charge. Same problem. Have to try a "setup as new phone" next and see if the problem persists.

I got the same problem. I took it to an Apple Store and let the genius look at it. He hooked it up to a MacBook, ran some test, and look into the earphone jack to check for moisture. He said the battery was a bit low for a two month old phone and just gave me a brand new replacement, no question asked.

The battery life of the new phone is very good now. I consistently get 5-6 hours of mixed usages and 20+ hour standby between charge. Also, the screen on the old phone was slightly tilted on one side and I could feel the sharp edge when I moved my finger across. The new phone however, is perfectly fitted. I am very happy now.

Add me to the list. I have the exact same symptoms as the original poster. I bought my 3GS about 18 months ago. My phone was fine on Saturday, put it on the charger Sat night, woke up Sunday morning to go to work and that is when it all began. Since then, I have done a number of hard resets, a number of full restores via iTunes, my latest is as a new iPhone with nothing synced or loaded. Originally I was loosing 1% battery life every minute with the phone on but nothing running. Since all my restores and battery conditioning (Running it down to zero, letting the phone shut down, then recharging to full) the last couple days my battery is now draining about 1% every 2-3 minutes. I get about 2.5 hours of actual use out of my phone now. I also now have the jumping battery percentage problem. I went from 100%, down to about 65%, then jumped back up to about 76%, then jumped back down to 55%, then discharged fairly linear down to about 28%, then jumped back up to about 43%, then suddenly back down to about 10% battery warning, then discharged to 5%, jumped back up to 11%, back down to 5%, back up to 11%, then finally discharged down enough to shut itself down.

I had the same problem. The phone was sometimes discharging eaven when connected to the charger, also sometimes was unable to receive any calls and it was getting worm. I discovered the proble is with Push applications. If you have push appliction and phone is unabled to connect to the internet (because you disabled GPRS/EDGE/3G within your operator or you have poor signal with no internet connection)eaven if you enable wifi it's still want to use your network connection when phone is in the stand by mode. I fixed it by restoring the iphone to factory settings then installed applications without push. You can try if only disabling push will fix it (but it my not). I try this with iPhone 3G and 3GS. I have SIM card with disabled interne connection and one with enabled. In both phones problem was with the SIM card that have disabled internet connection. I hope this will help you and t will be fixed in the next update.

My battery life is not at all good, and the only difference between then and now is the upgrade. I lost 20%-30% of the battery within an hour. It is ridiculous and the fact that there are more then one people complaining indicates there is a problem. I know Apple is not all that fast when encountering situations like this (I still have nightmares about an upgrade to 8.0 and the next day the start-up disc could not be found. Apple did realize, after a few weeks that a firmware upgrade was necessary, but it was a hellish few weeks). They need to find a fix, this is a problem.

Here is some other weirdness. I leave my iPhone plugged into the computer over night and I get up this morning and the battery is at 96%. WTH?

Very poor battery life since 3.0.1
