Preview App - Copying Columns, does not paste properly

When copying a column of text in a PDF in the new Preview, it doesn't paste elsewhere as a column like in the regular Leopard version of Preview.

This is a vital part of my work flow, and I'm not sure why they would take this functionality.

When I select the column of text, I use the option key, and the cross hair.

Any thoughts?

I've had to use Adobe Acrobat as a workaround, which is so clunky, slow, and awful compared to Preview
