External TV Display is black and white when connect via DVI to S-Video

Hi,

In Leopard this used to work fine, however in Snow Leopard I'm getting the following problem:

I use a DVI to S-Video adaptor (bought from Apple Store) to connect my macbook pro (Feb 2008 model) to a Digital TV. Every time I connected it used to work fine and I could instantly play movies. However in Snow leopard, every time I connect the TV display is Black and White, and I have to restart my macbook pro, while the DVI to S-Video thing is connect to get a coloured screen.

Any help is appreciated!

I spent about 3 hours on the phone last night about this issue. the 4th time i've spoken to a sr. adviser about this issue. I took alot to get it out of him but he finally admitted that the engineers are not looking much further into this issue and to not get my hopes up because I am running older hardware, aka using an analog adapter, not digital. Its absurd that they would not look further into this issue with this many people having the same problem, and obviously they can find a fix because it works before going to sleep. If anyone finds anything out let us all know. At this point I just want to get my money back for this shoddy software.

I spent big $$$ on a computer that i thought would come with better support than microsoft. how hard can it be solve this issue? why don't you guys get heads out of your ***** and fix this issue already... No disrespect to Apple, i just want what i paid lots of $ for to work as advertised that is all.

I'm having the same problem here! really ridiculous that it take so much time to fix this! If I disconnect my screen and i want to use the dvi-->tvout (cinch/s-video) to connect to my projector all the colors go wrong! after restart with the adapter connected it works fine. But no hot swapping between DVI-monitor and DVI-->TVout adapter. SO I have to restart my computer just to be able to connect my projector.... very annoying.

I just bought the thing presumably: " it would just work...." not really...

Hope they will fix this fast otherwise I'm returning the adapter.

So I was called back by a senior tech that they have no solution. In short they said: wait, it'll be fixed with an update. *****. Oh he did suggest downgrading the OS---I started laughing when he told me this. I wish I had good news but for those of us who use this feature we're SOL.

I'm personally going to write a letter to Apple's Customer Relations department and I encourage all of you to do so as well. This is BASIC stuff here and downgrading from SL is beyond absurd.

This is still not fixed in 10.6.2 but I figured out how to handle this issue by installing SwitchResX on my 10.6.2 MacbookPro (early 2008). SwitchResX doesn't say it has support for snow leopard, and it says that it needs APE installed - neither were true in my case. Didn't install APE and installed on snowleopard, all works fine. Only bummer is that SwitchResX will cost me another $14. 😝
