External TV Display is black and white when connect via DVI to S-Video

I am having the exact same problem. Upgraded to OS X 10.6, now when I connect my MacBook Pro to my TV via DVI, I get a black and white picture on my TV. I have to restart the laptop each time to correct to color picture. This is really disappointing and annoying. Please help. The link above was not helpful.

The link does state that a workaround may be to restart your system for the external display to function

I cannot restart my laptop everytime I want to connect to the TV. This feature used to work under Leopard. Restarting the system is not a workaround. Very disappointed.

I too am experiencing B&W, low resolution, shaky output on an external display when using a DVI to video adapter. DVI to VGA works like it did before, Snow Leopard upgrade, for external monitors. I would hope that DVI to Video would work like it did before upgrading the OS.

The solution refers to totally black screens when hooking up an external monitor, not the display being B&W however, restarting does solve the issue.

I always put the computer to sleep, attach video cable to DVI port, wake the computer and have had no problems.

Please patch this issue.

Yep, same thing here. DVI to scart (on an old tv) gives B/W. Restart brings back colour... until you put your computer to sleep. Wake up: B&W.

Hope they fix it in 10.6.1.

I'm getting the same black & white problem, super annoying to have to reboot everyday, just to get a color screen.

Add another one. Apple you need to fix this problem!!!!

+1. This is redonkulous... and still not fixed in 10.6.1

Strangely enough, my friends macbook pro, also on snow leopard DOESN'T have the same problem... maybe an issue with the Video Card?

it could depend upon the age of the mac book pro. i have the problem and I bought the mac at the end of 2007. i had problem with monitor and the apple centre who repaired it told me that many old mac have problems with the monitor. anyway i hope this problem will be fixed soon. I have written to apple. i can't reboot anytime

It is not a problem with the age of the hardware. This is a problem that exists in SL 10.6.1. The problem does not exist when I boot from my 10.5.6 backup on my external drive on the same machine.
