wav files no longer playing in quicktime -

My voicemail service from my landline sends me an email whenever I get a message. It attaches a .wav file which I could play on my iPhone. I've done this for the past year, it's been great.

Now it has stopped working, since I upgraded the OS. I get the message from Quicktime "Cannot Play Movie" and "Movie could not be played" when I click on the link in my gmail in safari.

The wav files haven't changed - 13kbps, 1 channel, 8khz, GSM 6.10

Please, can anyone tell me what's gone wrong? How to fix it?

I've just checked - the wav file does work in the iPhone's own email application, but not in gmail in safari.

But I don't like to use the iPhone email app. Aaaargh

Same issue here since upgrading to iPhone OS 3.x - My VoIP home telephone service emails me my voicemail files in .wav format and up until now I have been able to play the file attachments flawlessly.

However, since 3.x the email arrives with the attachment, it seems to recognize it as a playable format, but when I touch the file attachment the audio playback feature pops up for a split second, produces no audio, and then dumps back to the email.

Something is broken!

Same experience here on a 3GS. Voicemail .wav files attached to emails played fine under 3.0, and perhaps under 3.1 (not sure exactly when this broke), but it's not working at all under 3.1.2.

Wow, the strangest thing just occurred. I tried just now, so that I might precisely describe the symptoms (it had been that the attachment would start to download, but stop partway through, and QuickTime was never invoked). When I downloaded the attachment moments ago, the d/l completed, the icon on the file became a Q, and QuickTime played the message.

I'm wondering if it makes a difference that I am currently in the office and on Wi-Fi, rather than connecting via 3G. Have to do some experimenting, I guess.

But at least there appears to be no inherent incompatibility or QuickTime flaw.

Well, I seem to have found a solution which is working consistently for me.

Instead of tapping the icon for the voicemail .wav file itself (which yields the endlessly spinning clock and no download), I scroll to the bottom of the email and click the link to "Download full message". In short order, the icon of the voicemail .wav takes on the Quicktime file type, and I can then click on it to play it.

I do see this as changed behavior, and before the updates, I don't recall seeing the "Download full message" button, but it's possible it was there and I simply never looked at it.

If this works for you, leave a message confirming so that others will know this is the answer. Thanks.

I have a problem with this one - when i send a recoreded message (video message) recorded on my imac it obviously saves the file in quicktime format, however, when sending it to my iphone (via email) it downloads the file and recognises that its quicktime format, but when tapping on the file to play it comes up with movie format not supported.

any answers? or does apple need to update their quicktime on iphones?
