Pop-ups on safari..

Hello all,

I have Safari 4.0.3 installed on my mac with pop-up disabled and Safari adblock installed. I have noticed a pop-up referring to some government cash and stuff (spam for sure) popping up very frequently. Here is the link.

Does anyone have idea why this is occurring? Do I need to install some anti-spam sw too? I really have no idea what is the source of this popup window... Please help me....

Greetings,

I'm not getting any pop-ups at all, and I have Safariblock installed. Are you getting a dialog box asking if you want to navigate away from the page? If so, that's not a pop-up. As far as spam is concerned, that's email, and that's completely different than web browsing.

If you are actually getting pop-ups, the only way to stop them all is to disable JavaScript in Preferences > Security; but that will also prevent you from seeing a lot of web content.

Thanks for a quick reply. No, there is no dialog box asking if I want to navigate. The window appears suddenly and kind of gets hidden under my active / open safari window. I hardly notice that the window popped up from somewhere most of the times.

Like I said, if you disable JavaScript. you can stop all pop-ups, but that seems like it might be overkill.

You could also try downloading Hostal and use it's list of ad blocking for your Hosts file to see if it will block those pop-ups. And you should also change the cookie settings in Preferences > Advanced to only accept cookies from sites you navigate to.

Sure. Will do that and follow up with you again. Thanks so much.
