Downloaded .dmg files will not mount

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I cannot get any downloaded .dmg files to do anything. After downloading them, I double click on them and nothing happens. Nothing. No error message. No bouncing dock icons. Nothing. I've tried downloading them using Firefox and Safari with the same results. This is happening with all .dmg files, not just the same ones, so I know it's not unique to a particular .dmg file.

Any ideas or fixes? Anyone else having this issue?

15" Macbook Pro (LED screen, pre-unibody), Mac OS X (10.6), MBP: 2.4Ghz, 2Gb RAM

To reiterate on my previous statement....got Path Finder, and when I started experiencing the issue again in Finder (opening a .dmg), I switched over to Path Finder, double clicked the .dmg and....it opened right up. Isolated to Finder.

I am having the same problem as the rest of you mugs! .DMG files will not mount. Apps bounce when launched but will not launch, force quit required. Logging out, then logging back in works but only for a while. C'mon Apple, please help us out!

I solve my problem by replacing the 2 pref files below with the old files from my 10.5.8 system. I usually clone my old system before I update to the newer system.

Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent
Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.diskimages.fsck

About a million possibilities...
Can you open Disk Utility, and then open the DMG from within it?

Do you have Stuffit or Stuffit Deluxe installed?
If so, make sure they're not set to mount images.

Neither is installed. You guys using Snow Leopard aren't experiencing anything like this at all? What makes my machine different?

try it in a new user account. if the same problem exists there i would reinstall snow leopard.

Try deleting:

Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent
Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.diskimages.fsck

Logout/in.
Retry.

I have the exact same problem with the 3 utilities.... When i logout and back in everything is fine for a little while until it happens again.

Never had this problem with 10.5.8

Same problem here. I can mount them with disk utility but not by double clicking on them. Worked fine before in Leopard but no go in Snow Leopard.

I've done an upgrade and a fresh install on my iMac... problem still exists.
