Q: MacBook Pro Battery 'Service Battery' after Snow Upgrade

MacBook Pro Battery 'Service Battery' after Snow Upgrade

Way to many people are reporting this to just be failed batteries unless we all got them form the warranty program at the same time. I rather think its an issue with the upgrade.

Note that the KB fix did not help my machine so this needs more trouble shooting.
Any help would be great.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6)

ok here are my stats after updating to 10.6.2:
    Battery Condition: Normal
    Battery Health: 100% (Huh?)

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 1829
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 1920

I seem to have get rid of the "Service Battery" Thing BUT: I've still got only one hour of battery time when fully charged and only surfing with WIFI ...

what are you experiencing after the update?

I'm having huge battery problems with SL.
I've got a 2.2Ghz MacBook Pro, that has already had a battery replaced by Apple (out of AppleCare) because of the problems I was having with it. I got it replaced last year (last November) and it's done 67 cycles. Well before SL here are the stats from CoconutBattery...

    Health: 91%
    Capacity: 5908mAh

Now I know that's not good at all for a battery (what can I do?). Now that stayed until a few nights ago when I left the battery going for a while without the power adapter. I come back after around half an hour... stats...

    Health: 60%
    Capacity: 3373mAh

Great. "Service Battery" is there as well.
I'm having beachballs flying and everything. Everything is wrong with SL, I was an early adopter (got it the day it came out after school and upgraded from Leopard - no clean install - i know, don't bring it up, i should have done it) and now I regret it. Apple, please do something about this. I'm a student - I can't afford to get another battery! I'm now on 10.6.2 btw.

Is there any solutions? I'm trying a calibration tonight to see if it does anything. It's my primary computer, and I really need the battery.

    -Tim

    Update!
The health has just fallen again to 58% and 3291mAh capacity.
    This is pathetic.
    I'm calibrating it now.

I'm not sure why buy the problem has been gone for me for some time now. I got almost 4 hours out of my last charge and I have not seen the 'service battery' warning for a while. I updated just a couple days ago and all I got was an iTunes update. It sounds like the 10.6.2 update is out but does not address the problem. There is clearly something wrong considering I had the warning and reduced battery life, and now it's gone, but I'm sure it will come back. These darn genius bars are really far away from me, it's gonna cost me several hours of free time and $10 in gas...
Are you guys getting the battery health percentage from coconut battery? I've been posting the info from 'power' in the mac info menu, but I don't see a battery health %

    Updated.
Nothing changed. Health 52% Capacity: 2886 mAh

    Oh my God...

Updated SL and did an SMC reset and nothing has changed. Service Battery still showing. I'm reluctant to buy a new battery until the uncertainty is cleared. No where near a Mac GeniusBar - thousands of miles away

i didn't update yet...BUT...the service battery warning went away a couple of weeks ago, i got back to 80% of battery life, and almost 2.45 hours of battery life..

i didn't do anyhting, and 3 weeks ago i was stucked with 54% and shutdown without warning, 178 cycles..no idea...now i'm scared about upgrading :P

this is just ridiculous ... I'm back to "Service Battery" (after 100% of Battery Health for one day) and 47% of Battery Health ... there is something seriously wrong with SL.

    btw. i didn't clean install as well ... :/ didn't know

SL seems like a "how to get ripped as an early adopter 101"

    Calibrated the battery.
Went up 2% to 60% health and 3371mAh.
When it get to around 71% in the battery bar, it drops to 21%!
This is bloody stupid. Apple - listen up. Please listen. Fix this mess.
    10.6.2 does nothing.

As I stated in my previous post, there was nothing about fixing the "Service Battery" bug in the 10.6.2 release notes, so obviously the bug was not addressed.

It's STILL a bug and STILL needs to be addressed. Nothing has changed...

Ahh lapwolf, you really make me laugh. I liked it when you criticized rkovelman's reading comprehension and commented on his teaching ability. The irony is that you repeated your insult to me on the wrong person. It's almost as if you read rkovelman's post but didn't comprehend it.

I think we're not seeing as much activity here because people are realizing that new batteries are solving the problem. As time goes by I think it's becoming more and more apparent SL is not the problem and it's just a matter of battery hardware failure.

To be sure I don't believe people are making stuff up, I just don't think the problem is SL but a hardware failure instead.

Ahh splatnikG, continue to believe in coincidences and random shutdowns, it's your right, and I wouldn't think of taking that away from you.

Of course, facts are still facts, and THAT hasn't changed...

You sure you never mentioned it?

"Your tangent has gone far enough, we'll see how you respond once 10.6.2 is released, if in fact it does address this battery issue..."

I believe and my perception amongst others was that not only you said 10.6.2 would fix the issue. Your wrong again, not only did you mention 10.6.2 and say you did not you have contradicted your self multiple times throughout this post.

This is not an OS bug. To ALL if Apple releases an SMU or battery update that is the ONLY way you will see this resolved. Or get a new battery, or go to a Sony forum and complain there but good luck they own the patent on the technology.
