Can't send e-mail with Mail (gmail)

Can't send e-mail with Mail (gmail)

I have a gmail account and I've had it for a long time, I would rather not change my e-mail but... I can only receive e-mails in Mail, I CANNOT send.. any suggestions on how to fix this would be great!

Greetings,

What specific problem are you having when trying to send email from your Gmail account? If there's an error message, what is the exact text? What kind of account is this, POP or IMAP? More details are needed.

There is no error message it just doesn't send. I have tried with both a pop and imap, still nothing.

I can also send an email from my account if I go to gmail.com and log in

First, I can assure you that it can work, as it works for me.

As Golden Shoes suggests, check uot what Google says. You can also see my blog entry about how I set up Mail and Gmail.

A careful walk through of all options should reveal something.

Also, pulling down on Window and selecting Activity might give you some insight into what is going on.

I had a similar problem with Mail. Could receive but not send. Go to preferences, account information, outgoing mail server (SMTP). From that dropdown list choose edit server list and choose Authentication: Password. Put in your user name and password. Mine had worked for a year without this information being in and then just stopped. Now it works. Hope this helps.
