I Can't Add Words to WORD Dictionary....

I have Snow Leopard and Office 2008 for Mac.

Up until Snow Leopard, I was able to add words to my WORD dictionary. Now I can't.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!!!!!

I actually had to create a new custom dictionary, even though the old one was still there. For some reason, the installation of Snow Leopard made the old custom dictionary unreadable and not accessible. Once I copied and created the new custom dictionary, and deselected the old dictionary, that solved the problem and I can now add words to my custom dictionary.

Yes, somehow the Custom Dictionary file has become corrupted after Snow Leopard instalation. I followed the above suggestions but there are a few more details. Here are the complete steps:

1. open the Custom Dictionary file (user/library/preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/) in Word (drag on Word icon in tool bar)
2. Select All and copy
3. open a new Word document, Paste Special - unformatted text - the entries from the previous dictionary
4. save the file as Speller Custom Dictionary (.dic) - untick Append file extension - in same location above
5. open the new Custom Dictionary, click Show nonprinting characters and delete any odd spaces (i.e. before the dictionary entries) or characters, and Save
6. open a new Word doc - make sure that in Word - Preferences - Spelling & Grammar - Custom Dictionary is set to Custom Dictionary and language = none

Step 5 seems to be critical because I had several blank spaces before each word. I hope this solves your problem.
