ClearWire/ Motorola USB modem for WiMax not working after upgrade

I just received my Clear USB card and it will not work with my newly upgraded to Snow Leopard MacBook Pro either. Clear Support said Snow was not supported but regular Leopard was via their Beta. I have to figure out how to go backwards in OS systems to find out for myself here in Atlanta but am getting ready to take the plunge. Any luck with this. I'm having the same problem on my MacBook Pro. Conversations with Clear indicate that they have no plans to upgrade the driver.

I noticed there was a note in the 10.6.1 for sierra wireless 3G devices.

The person at Clear that I spoke with yesterday said that he thinks there will be new drivers available for download in a month or two...We'll see I guess.

I had OS 10.4 (Tiger) and the salesman told me any OS 10.5 and above would work. So, I bought Snow Leopard yesterday and was told it wasn't compatible. Clear did reimburse me the $170 and applied it to my account for buying Snow Leopard...for any of you who were suckered into purchasing Clear like me.

I have an update to help through the process. After talking with multiple customer support reps and attempting to not have to pay for the service while I wait for their upgrade, they proposed the following solution. I would recommend it to anyone to keep from losing any "good deals" you had when you first signed on to the service.

They can put your account in "hibernation" for a month. This will not terminate your service and will make it so they don't charge you for the service. The mobile device is unusable after that.

I have also tried running the device to windows through parallels, which is what I did before they released the Leopard software, but it doesn't work. The Mac doesn't even recognize it's presence. Hopefully, they will have something soon.

I just initiated the return process on my Clear USB package. I bought it on Thursday, and then found out that it doesn't support Snow Leopard. Customer Service was pretty nice about it.

Now though, I'm thinking about leasing the home unit until the USB driver becomes available.

I spoke with Clear today and they put my credit towards the CradlePoint HotSpot so I can use my WiMax USB to get internet until they make drivers available for the USB Modem. They were extremely nice and helpful, so if you want to keep the USB Modem and still get internet, then 1. you either have to spend the $140 for the CradlePoint router, or 2. see if they'll work a deal with you to credit you a free router.

I got it today and the router works great with the modem. The internet is actually faster than my old cable modem. I hope this helps...

Just wanted to jump in and verify weekendgolfer1's comments about using the Clear Spot modem until Clear gets off its backside and releases a 10.6 driver. I've got the same setup running for mobile Clear access, works fine. Yes, extra hand-sized Clear Spot WLAN router is a bit of a pain in mobile situations, but only if you aren't carrying a briefcase/purse/bag that the router will fit into. No need for any driver SW on Mac, looks like any WLAN router on AirPort list.

Nice to be able to stream television on the hour train ride to the airport...

Have you tried newer CLEAR software?

My CLEAR adapter USBw 25100 (firmware version 5.2.2061039) works with Snow Leopard (10.6.1) on my MacBook, running CLEAR Connnection Manager version 1.03.1031.0.

I originally installed the software from http://www.clear.com/support/download (version 1.03.0082.0, created October 2, 2009). Then I was able to run the CLEAR Connection Manager, select Tools > Check for Application Updates Now, and obtain a newer version 1.03.1031.0.

I do not know why they won't post the newer update to the downloads web page.

The Snow Leopard software that I have been using is now available for download from http://www.clear.com/support/download

I got the latest (nov 4 release) connection manager that says it works with 10.6.x and sure enough, it doesn't work. I really am tired of Clear. Not only is metro Atlanta coverage HORRIBLE but their lack of support for OS X *****. I contacted their technical support and was told simply that it does work, and the problem is with my Mac.

Is there anything special I need to do? Sacrifice a lamb maybe?

Don't feel bad. I had 3 different people at Clear tell me 3 different things about why it would it should but wasn't. I think maybe something in the installer doesn't recognize 10.6.1, so it fails. An engineer is supposed to contact me tomorrow.

They're useless. They released the 10.5 drivers a week after 10.6 came out, and now this. It's been a long time since I've seen a company this crappy.

The new 10.6 drivers dont work for me either. I am on 10.6.1 but the red light stays solid on the dongle. It worked fine in 10.5 and works fine in VM under Vista/Windows 7. I sent them my logs but I am still waiting for an answer. I thought that my Little Snitch was blocking it somehow but it was not it. Very frustrating. Mac does not have that many OS, hardware variations for releasing untested drivers.
