I just purchased a KonicaMinolta Magicolor 1600W laser printer only to discover that it doesn't come with drivers for Mac computers. Does anyone know where I can find a driver so that I can use this printer with my Mac? Thanks for any suggestions.
hi, It is not possible to bring the magicolor 1600w run on the mac, since
GDI-printers runs under windows, the is not supported by apple.
Printer that takes data directly from the GDI, and therefore in principle also be used on Windows only.
How about using the printer via a virtual machine?
There is a third-party free driver available - but you have to compile it yourself.
1. First, install foomatic and ghostscript from:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic 2. Next install Apple Developer Tools (from install DVD or download from Apple).
3. Next get foo2lava download and compile the driver:
http://foo2lava.rkkda.com/ 4. Then Add the printer in Print & Fax!
Tried the foo2lava thing already but it didn't work. Once it's installed and you Add Printer you need to select a driver. Nothing corresponds to the 1600W and none of the Minolta drivers listed worked.
Hi jonathan,
just to be sure - you went through the "./configure - make - sudo make install" steps to compile the driver? I did and I have the 1600W foo2lava driver available - just can't use it without the printer.
Did you restart your computer after installing to make the new drivers available to Print & fax?
Also to confirm - you installed foomatic and ghostscript?
I have a (borrowed) Canoscan 8000 and on OSX 10.6.1, the drivers available on the Canon site aren't helping. Seems as if they are for PPC machines only.
