"server is not correctly configured" error iPhone 3.0.1 itunes app

so my podcast madness radio streams and downloads fine from a desktop computer.

but on the iphone 3gs 3.0.1 i get the "server is not correctly configured" error when i try to play the same podcast in the iTunes iPhone app.

any idea the reason for this?

thanks!

The URL for your top episode is
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/madnessradio/~5/3P35Q2wvZ7k/MadnessRadio-2009-08- 26PaxilOnTrialAlisonBass.mp3

If you click the link for an mp3 file it should play in the browser: however you will find that if you click this link it will either download or bring up a dialog box asking what to do with the file. This means that the server is not correctly configured for mp3 files, so they are being treated as if they were fils of a type the browser couldn't handle. Evidently this doesn't upset the iTunes Store or application on the Mac - as you say it works fine there - but it looks as if the iPhone version is unable to handle it (I can't check this).

This is something you will need to take up with the people running the server.

The problem doesn't lie with the feed but with the URL for the mp3 file - presumably something to do with feedproxy.google.com - I don't know anything about this but from an quick google I suspect it's meant for feeds.

Where in fact is the episode? You must have uploaded it to somewhere - is there a direct URL for its real location? Putting that in the feed might well solve the problem: you can test it first by pasting it into a browser's address bar and seeing whether the browser plays the episode, as it should, rather than downloading it.

thanks -- the actual mp3 file works fine in a browser. it does seem to be feedburner's problem? this is the xml that's generated on feedburner's end:

The feed itself is OK. The problem lies with the URL contained in the 'enclosure' tags. For the top episode this is

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/madnessradio/~5/3P35Q2wvZ7k/MadnessRadio-2009-08- 26PaxilOnTrialAlisonBass.mp3

When entered into a browser this downloads rather than plays in the browser as it should, and though this doesn't seem to affect iTunes on the computer (surprisingly) it is likely to be the problem with the iPhone (something I can't check).

This URL references the actual mp3 file through feedproxy.google.com. You need either to ensure that this URL references the file for serving as an mp3 file rather than a download, or change the URL in the feed to the actual mp3 file - I assume that the latter is what you have been testing, but it's the feedproxy URL which is causing the trouble.
