Did you reinstall the driver? If not start there.

If you see an error message about the printer software not being installed correctly then this is an issue with permissions of the installed driver.

To correct the problem perform the following steps:

1) Navigate to Applications > Utilities and open a Terminal window.
2) Type the following command: sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/Xerox
3) You will be prompted to enter your password.

We're having the same issue with Xerox Phaser 8200DP. I see that it is supported on the Snow Leopard list, but I can't find it on my hard drive after installing Snow Leopard.

1. Any idea where I should be looking to see if all of the Xerox drivers got installed?

2. How do I add an IP printer if it doesn't show-up in the Bonjour dialog box?

THe 8200DP is a PPD only driver, even in 10.5. I'd recommend going to xerox.com and grabbing the latest version of the drivers. THe PPD should reside by the way in the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources directory. You may want to check and see if the PPD is present for you now, if so I'd try just re-adding the printer, no need to redownload.

No Xerox drivers get installed with the installation disk. They only exist on Apple's software update servers. Run software update to see if the Xerox update shows up. If it doesn't, you should get prompted to download the drivers when you try to add the printer.

Otherwise, you can download the installer from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/XeroxPrinter_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106

Thanks for the insights about Xerox Phaser 8200DP.

Here's what shows up:

/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Xerox Phaser 8200B.gz
/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Xerox Phaser 8200DP.gz
/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Xerox Phaser 8200DX.gz
/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Xerox Phaser 8200N.gz

Are these the files you were referring to? I wasn't sure because of the .gz next to them.

Thanks

Lucky for everyone, I work at Xerox. I had the same problem with the WCP40 driver. However, I managed to fix it by resetting the printing system after installing the driver. You can do this by going to System Preferences>Print & Fax, then control-click in the printers area and go to Reset Printing System.

Also, you can go here for a list of drivers that are compatible with SL: http://download.support.xerox.com/pub/drivers/CompatibilityMatrix/other/macosx/en/MacOSX10-6Matrix.pdf

Those are indeed the PPD files for the printer. If you don't see the printer in the default list as a Bonjour printer, then you can go into the "IP" tab and enter the printer's IP address into the Address box. I would try LPD first, but if that doesn't work you could also try IPP or JetDirect. You shouldn't have to enter anything into the Queue field.

To manually select the Phaser 8200DP driver, select "Print Using" and choose "Select Printer Software".
