Dropping Wi FI Signal

Ever since I installed 10.6 -- I constantly drop my wifi connection.
I have VPN turned off and the all the same settings from 10.5, and I never had a problem before.
Whether I am far away (reception is worse) or only 3 feet away, I drop my signal constantly for no reason.
I have latest Firmware on router and powered down modem and router.

Many times I can not turn off airport as well, and I need to restart my latpop in order to get a strong wifi signal again? Any suggestions?

My router is a Belkin G+ Mimo - most updated firmware

Thanks!

My MBP 15" has been working for a long time now after I changed settings noted in my previous posts. However last night it happened again. The network kept dropping. I reset the router, rebooted the Mac, did all the voodoo. Yet my iPad right next to me worked flawlessly with my wi-fi.

I was about to give up when I noticed the MBP had very little charge left. I plugged it in and the connection then worked flawlessly. Is this just a coincidence? Or does the power have something to do with losing the connection?

Guyz! Finally, I solved this problem from now and for good. I have tried everything, all the voodoo, sometimes it was a bit more stable, some times a bit less, but always the problem presented. I could not even use Skype in a reliable way, so now the problem is completely gone. What I did - downgrade to 10.5.8 again. Now everything works like before. Shame on you, Apple. That so many users report the same problem and you don't even trouble yourself with scratching your balls in order to merely admit the existence of that problem. Shameful.

Add me to the list of disgusted Apple users. Problem on two fronts. My daughter and her roommate both have Macs, both with latest software. Same WiFI problems described on the last 71 pages, using a Netgear b/g router.

At home, my son and I have Mac laptops as well. Our internet works well with two Netgear WNR3000 routers attached to U-Verse, one serving as a repeater, thus keeping speeds down to g level. HOWEVER, when I got brave and tried to use the 2Wire wifi on its own, BAM...same problems as above.

Well for weeks (months?) now, since two or three weeks maybe after 10.6.4 was released, I did not had dropping wifi until today. What is different? I applied the latest security patch less than 24 hours ago.

I noticed that the iMac is connected to the Airport Extreme but Airport Utility cannot "see" the Airport. Turned off wifi and turned it on again (on the iMac) and Airport was detected but it lasted a couple of seconds only. Problem solved after a reboot of the system and now monitoring if this is a one off or going to happen frequently again.

I have the same problem and I've tried several solutions offered here to no avail. Last night I stumbled upon a thread discussing another wifi connection problem, and although they appear to be two separate problems, I tried one of the solutions offered there and it seems to partially fix the problem! Usually I can't stay connected for more than 3-5 minutes at a time. Now I'm on for 45 minutes to an hour at a time. In the Advanced Options section of my Networking Preferences, I created an 802.1X profile (there was no profile before). And even though I'm connecting to an open AP, since the profile requires you to select an encryption method, I selected "802.1X WEP".

I'd like to hear if this helps anyone else.

I have stayed away form this for about a month.

Still no solution seems to work except what did which cures it (?)

I fixed my router to stay on 7 channel only, the normal for my house is 1 on automatic.

I have had it fixed for a month and no dropouts, last night I thought I would see what happened if I turned it back to automatic. Within couple of hours I was getting no internet connection again (airport shows full) but No internet or no other pickup of other channels.

Have to restart computer to get internet back via wifi.

Set fixed channel again on wifi NO dropouts.

It really is about time apple offered a fix on this, all my other computers in house do not dropout, iphone does not drop out, etc etc.

Same thing is happening to me on all 3 of my computers - I just installed SL on them all. I tried everything (delete "automatic" connection, zap the PRAM, manual connection instead of DHCP, etc.) to no avail but today I read somewhere about sending a constant ping to your router (168.192.2.1) and that worked for me. No more dropped connections. Go to network utility, select the "ping" option, put in your router number and select "unlimited number of pings." It's a pain but this seems to be the only thing that worked for me.
