I'm just glad I was able to find a wireless USB adaptor that works with a Mac. Sure its a bit on the ugly side but it works great.

So WiFi adapters do fail, and no software change can fix this. I had one fail once and also got an external adapter.

But several of us have posted solutions to those upgrading OS versions that have problems. Did you try these? I can repost my list. Many people have fixed with simple plist deletions, permission repairs and looking at your network settings.

A few have gone back to earlier versions if a version change was your kick off event.

Yes I have did everything possible aside from going back to 10.6.4/ reimaging the HD. I must have spent a week or so trying every fix that was posted to no avail. My initial thought was that my router was going bad and since it was time for a new one I went out and purchased one but that did not resolve the problem. A



Checked and rechecked firmware/ security settings

Deleted the wireless card in safe mode along with all associated passwords.

Ran utilities

Deleted logs and other associated files

Tried different channels and frequencies

And many many other things.



Since my Macbook is still under apple care I'm going to take it in as advised by Apple Support to have my WIFI card tested. I'll keep everyone once the card is tested and maybe replaced. I just have a feeling that even a new card will continue to have the same issue until a OS fix is provided.

I'll join in, I have a MacBook Pro 15" purchase around Aug 2010. A month ago my wireless started acting up at some point after I'd upgraded to 10.6.5, not saying it's related. I've tried everything, had Apple support on the phone, deleted systemConfiguration, pram'ing, downgrading to 10.6.3, and finally taking it in to one of there support centres who have had it for the last week. They booted up from an external hard drive and couldn't reproduce the problem after two days of trying, very odd. Their advice is it's a software issue and I should clear the hard drive and reinstall from fresh. So I've spent the last 2 hours doing just that, alas within 15 minutes the Airport has dropped out again, I'm unable to turn in on.

I checked the logs for the Airport and the first mention of it is as follows:

Hi Just thought I'd add my 27" imac i5 to this growing list. (running SL)
Constant Wi-Fi drop-outs and outbound syn and udp floods in my security log since I purchased it.
Strangely enough, I am such an Apple die-hard, it never occurred to me that these problems were/are caused by my lovely Macs! So I have been giving my ISP and the router manufacturer heartache but NOT Apple! Just a tiny snapshot of my security log:

I think Apple should take ownership of this : other posters on this forum have noted that there is one common denominator : Snow Leopard.

I have to concur. Hope someone from Apple is listening.
My other computers are all running fine on the wi-fi network, the Macs running 10.5.8

I'll go ahead and add my SL machines to this as well.

The original problem, I've had for the last 10 months or so is from a i7 27" imac.
This problem is not using wifi, I use this machine at work and it is connected via ethernet.
Snow Leopard was factory installed on this, we received it in January 2010 and have noticed issues since march or so.
More importantly I have a 2007 Mac Pro 8 core 3.0 that I upgraded to SL in the last few weeks
This machine was at 10.5.8, is now at 10.6.5 and has the same issues as the imac since being installed.
One web page I can always count on to show our IT guys the failure is espn.com
If I go there and click around a bit it will surely drop the internet. However I still have Network connections and can transfer files back and forth across the local network.

We have tried many of the suggested band aids here, unsuccessfully.

Anyone believing SYN/UDP "floods" are real with Snow Leopard needs to read the explanation here:

I see less and less posts. Is this due to new machines not having the problem, everybody having solved it (how, please?) or sheer just exhaustion?

I for one still see the problem in my son's macbook, while my daughter's new Pro doesn't.

My son works with an external Belkin USB key, the internal card still drops connections happily.

Could be your son's mac actually has a broken Airport card. My daughter has been tough on her macs over time and we have had to several repairs over the years.

And it happens exactly the day SL is installed? Naaaaaah

It was also recently repaired for the broken shell and the Seagate replacement, I mentioned this and they did not find anything wrong with the card.

It must be SL because it happened then, and many people have the same problem mainly when SL is installed.

BTW, is there a diagnostic SW for WiFI cards to make sure about this without having to tear apart the machine?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the Apple feedback address. I have been trying since mid-December to find a way to e-mail Apple. I've even noted on this forum about lack of e-mail contact (actually being able to document an issue). Even now knowing the address exists, I still found it very difficult to find the site by scanning it or via Apple's main address. It wasn't obvious. It's like Apple don't want problems logged. Once again, thanks. Won't hold my breath for a response though. Just happy to vent my anger.

I have a Mac Book Pro that I've had for about a year. I have SL on it. I have Cox Cable, and was on a Linksys Router(one of the best they make) and my signal is dropping every 12 seconds. I can't watch even a you tube video without it dropping. My husband has a MacBook but it is several years older than mine, his was dropping the signal, but not near as often as mine. I purchased a Netgear router, and his has stopped, but he is NOT using SL. I called the tech people from Cox, and they can't find anything wrong with my cable network or Motorola Surfboard. They don't support the NetGear, but the service center for NetGear, seemed very knowledgeable about the necessary set up. It also seems like my Ipad and my Iphone do the same thing. Does it have something to do with syncing them to this computer? HELP!! I can see the airport searching ever 12 seconds.

This solution solved the problem on my MacBookPro QuadCore just purchased.
However Apple should officially intervene on this matter.

Just thought I'd join the queue.

I have a brand new 17" MBP (2011) and with my house's cheap ADSL router (Edimax b/g/n) it drops its connection every 90s or so, frustrating. The connection works fine in Bootcamp (Win 7 Ult. N), I tried a lot of different things to get a stable connection in 10.6 (OS settings, every router setting known to man etc.) and failed, wasting many hours.

I've set a spare router (with DD-WRT) as a repeater and am now connecting to that fine, the problem really does appear to be related to the type of router (chipset perhaps?).

Please fix this problem Apple... my iPad, iPhone and three other laptops hold a good connection to my router.

Heard this before? Ever since I also upgradet to 10.6, I have had 0.5 Mbps at most. I have tried every trick & fix there is. Its the same regardless wether I use cable or WiFi. At work, at home, at a friends house. Used speedtest.net and compared to pcs and mac ...and the poor internet connection is only on my computer ...ever since I upgraded to 10.6 and 10.6.6

If I hear one more person her trying to defend the OS ...blaming hardware, router or whatever - Im gonna flip sideways. This is solely a SL issue, and needs to be resolved by Apple. I red that this issue has persisted since the first version of SL. I was sure that the 10.6.6 v would solve this. To no prevail Im sad to say.

The one thing I havent done yet is downgrading to 10.5 - which I know will fix my issues.

I don't have to list all the fixes I have tried, but its not working. The only thing I can think of is that my MBP is outdated. I bought mine in dec 2008, and SL was launched in june 2009. Could that be ...?? Is that the reason my network is affected ... but everything else is working as it should?
