Jan 4, 2010 10:49 AM in response to William Kucharskiby california99,Yes I ran the utility and everything came up clean. -
Jan 4, 2010 10:56 AM in response to islandgirlflby california99,Buying a new router is unlikely to resolve the problem. (Unless there actually was a router problem, which is unlikely if other machines connect okay, eg. an iPhone or a PC.) I, and other posters, did change routers, but it seems to make no difference to the signal problem. I did it because I figured it was time to get a newer, faster router anyway, but my slight hope it would cure the wifi problem was not fulfilled. Changing to an unused channel in my pickup range was what made the biggest difference to me. -

APPLE where are you on this?
islandgirlfl ~ They aren't here as these are user-to-user forums. You could join the +Apple Developer Connection+ — the +ADC Online+ category is free, here:
...then you can use this to create a trackable problem report:

And no, you don't need to be a "developer" to join — just an Apple user who wants to make sure Apple receives as much info as possible about this problem — you'll also have the ability to track its resolution.

Note that's only true if your bug is a unique one that is not already in the database.
If your bug is a duplicate, your bug will be closed as a duplicate of that other bug, and you cannot track the status of others' bugs. -

You can, as ADC suggests, request the status of the original bug by sending an email to ADC like this:I would like to know the status of the original Bug ID# NNNNNNN (my Bug ID# nnnnnnn was a duplicate of this.)
...You will promptly receive an email indicating the current status — this has been my experience anyway.

Jan 4, 2010 12:23 PM in response to Ryan83by doire69,I'll join the growing list of respondants...
I have MacBook Pro and never had any problems prior to 10.6
Now the WiFi drops at least once a day, sometimes more.
I have an older Macbook running on 10.4 and this has no problems whatsoever
I've tried the suggestion about deleting the plist but the problem just comes back. Apple, we need this sorted....ASAP -
Jan 4, 2010 2:51 PM in response to amilesmby bobcoyote,Qwest just installed pk5000 DSL modem/router and I have Time Capsule with router and extreme wireless features. Is there a way to cable pk5000 to Time capsule in order to get full capability especially 802.11n of TC? -
Jan 4, 2010 9:09 PM in response to Ryan83by frenzy77,My first post was removed by Apple so I'll be more careful this time. I just want my voice to be heard. I have a 15" MacBook Pro Mid 2009 and my wireless connection drops constantly. Originally, I was using a 2Wire gateway. I then purchased a Time Capsule and still experienced the problem. I've tried just about everything to fix this issue. I have 9 other devices, including 3 iPhones, that use our wireless network and have never dropped the signal. Hopefully this post will not be considered a rant, but another data point to help find a real fix for this very frustrating and disappointing issue. -
Jan 5, 2010 4:55 AM in response to frenzy77by William Kucharski,If you want your voice to be heard by Apple, contact AppleCare.
If even a small fraction of those here experiencing the issue do so, it should stand out as a larger than usual issue to them. -
Jan 5, 2010 5:28 AM in response to Ryan83by Donald_Paul Ramsay,Totally agree and I have done and continue to ask for updates. I have also provided the tech level 2 guy with the link to this string as it is the longest string on the forum. -
Jan 6, 2010 12:48 AM in response to Ryan83by jpdemers,There seems to be one thing shared by everyone who has this problem: more than one Mac is using the router. For what it's worth, I had similar problems after installing SL on my Mini, and it went away when I upgraded my daughter's iMac to SL as well. If there's a problem when 10.5 and 10.6 machines share a network, the bug could very well be in 10.5, although the symptoms appear on the 10.6 machine. Not that this helps anyone who can't upgrade all the Macs in the house ... but it may be a clue for the Sherlocks among us. -
Jan 6, 2010 1:57 AM in response to Ryan83by Donald_Paul Ramsay,Now that is an interesting thought. To be honest if all the machines were mine in the house I would go for it. However, if it fails on my partners then all **** would break loose. Also on one machine the superdrive does not work so that will still be at 10.5.8 -
Jan 6, 2010 3:25 AM in response to jpdemersby William Kucharski,My trouble-free network consists of two MBPs running Snow Leopard, one Quad G5 running Leopard, one dual 500 MHz G4 running Tiger, two PCs running OpenSolaris and one occasionally running XP, a Wii, and two iPhones, one 2G and one 3GS, so there's no problem mixing OSs, architectures or devices here. -
Jan 6, 2010 3:56 AM in response to jpdemersby california99,That's not the issue. My old 10.5 laptop is normally not on. I've just put it on from time to time to check the network, and see if the issue is SL. For me, the correlation with SL is 100%. But my old Leopard Mac has been switched off for days now, and yet today I have had endless trouble getting onto the router or then the Internet after waking from sleep -- problems I have not had for a few weeks. No amount of rebooting the entire system from cable modem down worked, nor was there channel interference. It took ten to fifteen minutes of waiting before I could get onto the net, after each wake from sleep. -
Jan 6, 2010 5:00 AM in response to William Kucharskiby jpdemers,I'm sure there are thousands of users who have multiple Macs and no problems. My suggestion is that whatever the problem is, it crops up mostly when there are multiple computers sharing an access point. It seems to me that a surprising majority of the people on this thread have multiple machines.
I'd like to know if anyone has this problem with an "out-of-the-box" Mac, i.e. with freshly installed SL and no non-Apple software whatsoever. Format the HD, do a clean install, don't restore anything, just connect and see if it stays connected. Update the software and again see if stays connected. If the problem can be reproduced on the Mac under these conditions, and it persists with more than one router, I think we can say it's a hardware and/or firmware issue, peculiar to the machines we're dealing with on this thread. I say this because there are surely tens of thousands of "out-of-the-box" Macs out there right now, that are working just fine.
