HI !
This is getting even more clear to me, yesterday I added Belkin WLAN-router to my system so that
DLINK 2740b is taking care of ADSL 2+, DHCP and 802.11b WLAN with WEP and Belkin N1 Vision connected to DLINK switch is taking care 802.11n with WPA2.
Having mac mini and airport connected to Belkin 802.11n WLAN with WPA2 I was able download all night without dropping.
So to be more precise this game seems to be between Apple and DLINK, because all other PC's work fine with DLINK. Apple airport must have something which is not compatible with DLINK or DLINK something which is not compatible with Apple,,
Because Compaqs and all other network products I have are compatible with DLINK I think Apple still have to do something, they can do it together with DLINK if they like, but they should be able to get their products compatible with all mainstream routers.
I doubt that it's only d-link, I use a FritzBox (http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/FRITZBox_Fon_WLAN7270/index.php), which is one of the biggest producers of consumer Routers here in Germany, and I had the same problems at the University Library, where I'm pretty sure that they're using more robust hardware. But I agree that these problems could be limited to a combination of certain routers and airport. It would be nice to find some common denominator between the different routers used when experiencing these network freezes... -
Mar 7, 2010 9:42 AM in response to samuelaebiby Robin Bonathan,Also use fritz box.
Same problem.
The fritz box is top notch.
Try changing channel to 7 and reducing security down to wep.
this has helped. (not cured though)
later this week will be using a vodafone router if they get my new adsl up and running so be interesting to see how it works with that, -
Mar 7, 2010 11:48 PM in response to 85suitedby Bart1977,@Thief4 and others who bought a new Mac and experience this problem
If you bought a new Mac using your creditcard, I think it would not be unreasonable to return it, citing the warranty. You work with support for a couple of hours, be reasonable (and buying another router is not reasonable IMHO), then bring it back and if necessary, force cash back from the merchant through the creditcard company.
If all else fails, this is the only other open option.
Go ahead and go to another merchant to try with a different model, sure, but still -- bring it back. This will send a message. -
Mar 8, 2010 3:11 AM in response to Ryan83by nashxiv,Hi. I was suppose to make a thread for this. I am experiencing this problem too and i can't find a problem. This problem started 3 days ago (as a i can recall). I am running on
MacBook Pro
10.6.2 Snow Leopard
Is there already a solution which i miss in this thread?
Thanks,

Mar 8, 2010 12:48 PM in response to samuelaebiby JimiFI,One explanation:
Fritzbox, Dlink and some others, those brands may use same hardware or at least same chipset or some common software. At least I have red from net that dlink and some linksys routers can use same firmware so they must have the same hardware to be able to do that.
Since moved to Belkin Vision few days ago I have not had any dropping problems any more. -

Can you give us more background? Did you just upgrade to Snow Leopard? Just purchase a new machine? Or had been connecting to the interent fine and with no change in your computer system are having difficulties?
The thread covers mostly people upgrading to Snow Leopard or purchasing a new machine with SN. Then finding poor interent connectivity even if they are seeing full bars on the airport icon.
I have a full summary of the thread I can copy and paste into a note, and I have done this in the past (so my post is buried somewhere). Also there is a separate web site with most of these same tips:

Mar 8, 2010 8:53 PM in response to samuelaebiby WallStreetShari,I got a Macbook Pro from a friend. This was purchased in November and had SL on it. I have not been able to connect to the internet on this Macbook Pro in my home. No problem with the two PC's in the house. I talked to Apple - they say it is the router. I talked to our service provider - they say to try a new router but not a Belkin. Now I am really confused. This new router we get has to work with Mac and PC. Any advice and do you think that is the problem. So very disappointing to get a new toy and not be able to use it!!!!! -

No full-proof solution seems to have arisen in this thread. That's basically because there are multiple issues going on here. Before you give up, please be very sure that you identify the issue. If all else fails, buy a third-party WiFi USB stick or use wired ethernet. -

Bart ~ That's a nice example of an "eggcorn" — the substitution of a word for a word that sounds identical.
...For all intensive purposes the correct word is "foolproof".

Mar 9, 2010 10:50 AM in response to nashxivby WallStreetShari,I am at a friends house. I am able to tap in on an unsecured line and it is working (however slowly) but cannot get the internet from my own condo. Will let you know if a new router works. -
Mar 9, 2010 5:12 PM in response to WallStreetShariby WallStreetShari,OK I am home now. My imac is running wireless on Airport. My imac is v 10.5.7 Leopard. My Macbook Pro is hooked up to the internet to work. My Macbook will NOT run on Airport. The two computers are sitting side by side. I think this has to be a Snow Leopard problem. Is anyone at Apple working on this problem??? What is the point of having a Macbook if I can't use Airport. That is why I got it. -
Mar 9, 2010 5:54 PM in response to WallStreetShariby ctmurray,Mac Life ran a bit in the magazine - asking readers to submit a particularly vexing technical issue. "Your Burning Questions Answered! Can't get your iPod to sync? Your MacBook can't connect to WiFi?" I kid you not. So I submitted this thread as an example of WiFi issue through the web site. -

My issues were originally with a DLINK DI-24 which I replaced, but not before moving back to 10.4.11. I replaced the DLINK with a Linksys WRT54GS2.
I'm thinking of backing up, then upgrading again to SL (I was hoping apple would have released a fix first).
Anyone know if the Linksys is a better router / less problems with this issue? -
Mar 9, 2010 6:49 PM in response to smickdby retiredatlast,This is not a router issue. Many others on this line have so noted. I was using an Airport Extreme when the issue stated. Changed to a LinkSys but issue remained. Then went to a Time Capsule and the problem still persisted.
