Apr 11, 2010 8:30 AM in response to LJC06by NicholasKell,First off, welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am not sure that you are in the correct thread for your issue, you may want to start a new thread for this issue, because it is, with the amount of information that you posted, unrelated to this thread. The original poster was addressing an AirPort issue when upgrading from Leopard (10.5) to Snow Leopard (10.6). By starting a new thread, you will attract the right kind of attention to your problem, as most people that are viewing this thread are doing so because of the 10.5 to 10.6 upgrade.
The Apple Discussion forums are chock full of people that will be willing and able to help you get your issue solved. -
Apr 11, 2010 1:45 PM in response to Ryan83by jpdemers,For the adventurous among us, there is a program called Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com) that can install single drivers from an installer DVD or dmg file. It would be interesting to try installing the Airport card driver from OS 10.5 (which works fine) into Snow Leopard.
I'll give it a try myself when I find the time (have lots of work to get done at the moment), but anyone with the time and interest might want to give it a shot. -
Apr 11, 2010 2:38 PM in response to jpdemersby William Kucharski,Note that kernel interfaces definitely do change between releases, sometimes even minor releases, so if you try this be prepared for broken functionality at best, and kernel panics or a system that doesn't boot at worst.
(Or, in other words, be sure you have a bootable backup before you try anything like this. Note also it may re-open any security holes closed by security updates as a plus.)
I can't stop anyone, I'm just pointing out the risks… -

Apr 11, 2010 11:48 PM in response to Ryan83by Greg Friedman,I have posted numerous times over the past year about this problem. It ended up being the router that was the problem for me. An AT&T tech came out and replaced my brand new 2 wire router with a Motorola router and I have not lost my connection once in the past 2 weeks. It feels like my connection is faster than it's ever been. For some reason Snow Leopard just doesn't like 2wire modems.
Ihope someone can use this info to try and convince AT&T to switch out their router and see if it solves their problem also. -

Sorry, I have an iMac running 10.5 and an iPod touch, both have *no problem* connecting to the very same network, my Macbook running 10.6.3, cannot keep for more then 10 minutes, (if I'm lucky enough to connect at all).
I tried many things, most worked... until you try to reconnect.
So for now, add me to the waiting list. -
Apr 12, 2010 8:45 PM in response to William Kucharskiby gocuk2@yahoo.,Next time you go to the Apple store have a look at the walls. They don't just have metal in them, they are metal, Stainless Steel!! Allan -

Apr 15, 2010 5:57 AM in response to RodBauerby ranger2339,I have been taking not of when my wifi drops and I went a hole week with no dropping, then it did it like 4 or 5 times in one day. Then its good for a day or so. I have no idea what the deal is, but its a pain in my arse. -
Apr 15, 2010 6:11 AM in response to Ryan83by ihsoy,Those of you on the thread with AT&T U-verse 2Wire Routers, please take a look at your router, mine recently got a firmware update. I haven't been on the MacBook to test if it's any better yet... -
Apr 15, 2010 6:18 AM in response to ihsoyby NicholasKell,I noticed a firmware update on mine a few days ago as well, but the MBPs still are having trouble.
To be honest, I don't know if it is getting better, or if I am just getting used to it. I do know that my connection is still slow when it is connected. -

Apr 19, 2010 2:20 PM in response to Ryan83by Camomille,Well, I still haven't found a solution to my wifi problem (drops in and out, rather nonstop).
Hoped that updating to 10.6.3 would help, but, joy of joys, the installation always fails at the last step. I've seen other people with this installation problem but now I've got 2 annoying issues and wondering if anyone else has this combo. My system discs are all 8 hours away so no fresh install for now.
And I thought getting a new laptop before they refreshed the line would make for a more stable experience. I don't suppose they'd swap out a 6 week old machine? -
Apr 19, 2010 11:40 PM in response to Camomilleby jpdemers,The suggested way to get around a hanging update is to boot into safe mode, and use the "combo" updater ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 ). That should patch up whatever files are hosed in your system.
Good luck downloading that combo file with a shaky connection, though. Got wire?
