May 10, 2010 10:56 PM in response to DrNottaby Judy,I turned IPv6 off also. So far it has worked for hours now without dropping the signal on my core duo MBP -
May 13, 2010 5:19 AM in response to Ryan83by Chinial,I turned IPv6 off and thought it had worked but then had a couple of drop-outs. I then increased the multicast broadcast rate in airport utility from 2mps to 5mps and it's been stable since. -
May 13, 2010 6:17 AM in response to Ryan83by johnMac47,Same problem as others. New 27' iMac March 2010. Worked fine for first month but is now constantly dropping wi-fi connection, running slow and keeps asking for WPA passwood. If I connect with an ethernet cable everything appears to run ok which points to a problem with the Airport software. Seems to be the same problem identified on the new iPad's. Apple, are you aware of this. If so when are you going to fix the problem? -
May 13, 2010 2:29 PM in response to johnMac47by William Kucharski,Since it "ran fine for a month" it's almost certainly due to interference, likely because a neighbor added a new Wi-Fi device or changed the channel on their router.
Try changing the channel on yours as a first step. -
May 13, 2010 3:29 PM in response to William Kucharskiby jpdemers,Equally likely, if not more so, is that the Airport card is failing. Still, you do the easy stuff first, and switching channels is on the "easy" list. -
May 16, 2010 6:07 AM in response to jpdemersby Peter Blackburn,There is no clear solution to this, but in case this helps someone...
I seem to have solved it for the moment by selecting the Join other network from the drop down menu when you click the airport icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen, then enter the details of the wireless network. Why going in this way should work while other slightly different methods don't it beyond me (and Apple it would seem, for the time being).
When I entered these details via system prefs > network > airport > advanced and added to networks it did not work at all.
My home WLAN has SSID hidden and works with WPA2 Personal.

May 19, 2010 6:33 AM in response to Ryan83by DrNotta,yeah... turning off IPv6 worked for a couple of days, now it's back as bad as ever. Sure hope Apple is on this.... -
May 21, 2010 4:08 AM in response to DrNottaby Chuck Stryker,Add me. I upgraded to SL yesterday and noticed that during the updates, it took 7 times to completely download - kept freezing. Since then, every 3-5 minutes my Internet goes down, but computer stays connected to the router or at least has 4 black bars. I have had this computer for 17 months and since the wi-fi issue started during the SL updating process, it's pretty safe to say that SL is the culprit. I've tried all the 'fixed' but nothing so far. -
May 27, 2010 7:36 AM in response to Chuck Strykerby fjp1,You can add my macbook to the list as well. Mine only drops when I open up the laptop and I have to reconnect, but it's still annoying to have to type in my encryption password every time I open my computer. -

May 29, 2010 5:52 PM in response to Judyby Judy,That solution did not work for too long. So I turned IPv6 back on.
But I did change my channels. And I have not yet dropped my signal.
I set up my Time Capsule after reading this article. I used 48 for the 5 GHz, and 6 for the 2.4 GHz.

May 31, 2010 1:48 AM in response to Judyby OVozeh,Guys,
I've had the same problem as described in this thread, tried everything over a couple of weeks and just could not figure it out. Then took a month's vacation, took my MacBook with me, returned home and the problem was gone. No kidding ! Both the router and the Time Capsule were connected all that time. Now everything works great again. Now, figure that out !
Possible explanation : (a) my neighbors changed their internet access and there is no interference or (b) the router and TC "took a break" from all the wireless activity and equipment in our home. -
May 31, 2010 2:15 AM in response to OVozehby Nutty87th,Well I'm going to throw a spanner in the works.
Having suffered throughout all of this and posted about it, I decided to purchase 2 routers for testing. I never got to test the second router because the first router, (Netgear WNDR3700 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit Router) solved all my issues. No drop outs, excellent range.
I'm so relieved!
The question remains why my previous router was fine with IPhones and Windows machines, and not the MBP.
But that's a discussion I can leave for you guys. I'm just so pleased that this is solved for my wife and I here.
Good luck!

Jun 1, 2010 12:35 PM in response to Ryan83by ben3175,I bought a new Mac Book Pro last week and have had this problem from day one. I tried every suggestion i could find in the forums, talked to apple support (the guy told me they don't know about this problem), but no luck. I also tried to connect to a lot of different wifi networks but had the same issue everywhere.
finally i went to the apple store and talked to them. they also told me that they have not heard of this problem (well i told them to have a look at this post). i had the same issue with the wifi in the apple store, so i could show it to them. they tried to boot the MBP from an external device, discovered some kind of "kernel panic" (no idea what this means, i'm a noob) and they told me to have the MBP replaced, but they couldn't say exactly where the problem was. i should receive the new MBP tomorrow or the day after, will check it out and report back.
cheers guys
