Voice Control randomly turns on?

Do you notice if it is only when you first insert the headphones?? I think that operation is normal. Other than that, I've never had it launch on me unexpectedly

I just got my 3GS yesterday, and I experienced this today. I have the Nike+ sensor. I ran for about 3 miles then all of a sudden Voice Control kept coming on and pausing my workout. It was very, very annoying. The other thing that happened alongside of this which was annoying is during my whole run "Shake to Shuffle" never activated but then it suddenly started shuffling my music at the same time voice control was coming on. I turned Shake to Shuffle off, but Voice Control kept coming on. I thought maybe Voice Control was being activated by being in my pocket. I took it out of my pocket and ran with it in my hand. It still came on repetitively.

My only thought was I have been having trouble with my headphones recently and wondered if that was the cause. As soon as I took my headphones out and kept running it did not happen anymore. I hope the 3GS is not failing. I bought the Invisible Shield and I HATE mailing it in to replace it for the new phone.

Thank goodness I am not alone. I experienced the same problem with voice control coming on while running and sweating. I wish there was a way to turn-off the voice control while running. I am also sorry to hear that the complanints have fallen on deaf ears at Apple; that's not what I expect.

This happens to me once in a while when using the earphones...the genius said that i was tapping the microphone incorrectly...still dont explain why it wont respond to my voice when it goes on by itself though...but the genius said user error pretty much...I swear theyre too smart sometimes they just sound dumb

It's the headphones. They get activated by sweat (or the mic does). I switched them out for regular iPod headphones when running and it solved the voice control problem.

I don't run with the iPhone.. This random Voice Control thing is happening to me right now and I am just sitting at my desk... I am using headphones (Dr. Dre's Beat with microphone cable) but I am not using the cable to control the iPhone... this is very annoying and never noticed this prior to upgrading to OS 3.1.... someone please help!

Hi, glad I am not the only one, mine did this recently while doing the great north run, with nike +. really annoying, will try with old iphone eye phones, see if that works,

When buttons malfunction, it usually means that the iPhone as been immersed in water. Look down the headphone jack using a bright light. If you see a red dot, it means that your iPhone is ruined.

Guys, I have this same problem. With my 3GS, the Voice Control feature will randomly activate, then pick up ambient noise and start randomly dialing my contacts, or playing music. I have disabled voice dialing, so it no longer calls people, but still randomly plays music. This is NOT caused by sweating, or by the headphones, but can happen at any time, whether the phone is on a desk or in my hand or in its case etc etc. And the phone has NOT been immersed in water. There are at least 4 threads devoted to this problem, so lots of people are suffering, and looking for a way to disable voice control - which unfortunately is impossible. It is a major problem with the Voice Control feature.

Guys, I finally took my 3GS back to the Apple Store this morning. They said the problem is that the home button is getting "stuck". They fixed it by replacing the whole front display module (part no. 661-5270). Took about 15 minutes. They also said that if they didn't have the front display module in stock, they would have replaced the whole handset.

So far it seems to have fixed the "random voice control" problem.

I really think it has to do with the mic and the sweat; it only happens after 30mns or so of cardio when i'm all sweaty. voice control turns itself on and off, songs pause, go on fforward or skip to the next one. Trying today with earphones that do not have a mic to see what happens

It's def. a problem of moisture in the mic. With regular headphones none of the problems occured

I have the same problem. After listening to ipod for about 30 mins and working out at the gym the Voice Control will keep coming on and keep interrupting the music. The tracks will speed up or skip to the next track. I have not touched anything on headset or the iPhone. Did the new headset without the mic work?
