Change drive icons in Snow Leopard

Change drive icons in Snow Leopard

Hi,

In Leopard this was fairly easy. I would just drag the icon file on top of the image there in the drive's Get Info pane.

Now, in Snow Leopard, the same process just gives the drive a generic ICNS file icon, not even the white disk icon anymore. How does one change a USB drive's icon in 10.6?

Hi,
It should work - I changed the icon on a usb thumb drive only yesterday.

Hi,
I use a program called Candybar, but if you have icons in a folder, then select one and choose "Get Info" click on the icon in the top left corner of the window and choose "copy"
Paste the icon to your drive as you described above.

The option to copy is grayed-out in the Get Info pane. The icon file is unlocked and my user account has read & write permissions.

Have you tried cmd-c?

I have tried cmd+c, cmd+v I was not selecting the proper part of the Get Info pane for the Copy, Cut, Paste options to be available. Still no luck. I thought Leopard supported these large icon files...

Have you tried copying the icon to another drive - say your computer's hard drive?

Yes. I can change the boot drive, no problem. It has to be a permissions problem I can edit the permissions on the boot drive, while I can only see my permissions on the USB drive with no option to edit.

I'd post a screen-shot, but don't see any option to do that here.

You could reformat the drive after copying it's contents to your computer.

That did it. Thanks!!! The view on the permissions didn't change, but Ican now copy/paste icon viles via the traditional way.

Hi folks, I also have the icons issue but could someone explain what re formatting the drive means please as I'd like to be able to switch back to my old icons now that I have Snow Leopard? Thanks.
