Help Please!!!!

Hello, I just bought snow leopard to my macbook...the installation was satisfactory but when I tried to open the system preference app, there was a message that said that the application could not work with the version of Mac OS X.. ANY IDEAS? I WOULD REALLY MUCH APPRECIATE IT.
