Cannot open Earthlink home page

Hi, eMac'ers......

I am having trouble with my Firefox...
1-Cannot connect to Earthlink home page now at all, it just simply
does not open at all.

2-When a window opens, the top portions are a steel-grey color, with no
"return" or any actions other than close

3-When I called Earthlink, they told me to call Apple, because they are
ONLY an internet provider! This from Technical Support!!! (I remember
Earthlink from many years ago when the creator was still there, and they
were TOP QUALITY in every way. It has now gone so far downhill, I am
seeking another ISP. (Any suggestions for Cottonwood AZ?)

Not sure what else to tell you, except the grey color at top of windows,
and inability to open Earthlink home page, which has been set up for many
years.

So, hopefully,
Beverly Smith

Hi, Tom,

Sorry I was so confused I forgt to mention I can open my Earthlink home page if I open with Safari. (except haven't used Safari for a while, and don't have the
password handy). But Safari seemed to work fine, and Earthlink said that proved the Earthlink DSL connection is working fine, that Firefox has been contaminated (sorry, can't remember term he used). I guess that's why the top parts of windows are dark grey with no other actions available except "quit"
I will try what you suggested and let you know. And just noticed Firefox does not appear below in "Other details:" which I had entered there long ago???
Thank you, as usual, for your kind help,
Beverly

Hi, again, Tom....

I did try to do what you suggested, except there was NO address bar, only a search one with "Google Yahoo! search bing" in it, and when I entered "www.earthlink.com"
I ended up on a search list page. And I could not use the Safari, because it asked me for user name and password, which are so old I couldn't remember, and everything I entered was refused.
Sorry to be so dense about all this, but I am rather slow to "get all these
terms"..... Gettin' old ain't for sissies! Duh!
Thank again,
Beverly

Thank you, Thomas, but being rather dense with computers-- I did have the
latest Firefox although it did not show in "My other details" line at bottom.
It had been there, but has disappeared.
I also need to ask if everything I have done with Firefox will stay on my
eMac when I re-install a new Firefox??? Or do I have to be sure to save all
I've read and entered?
Again, thank you so much for your patience
Beverly

Afraid I did not explain clearly enough before....because I am not sure how to describe everything. I will start again to try to describe what is on my Firefox home page:
1- Maybe first I should ask what the twirling rainbow ball (red/blue/green/yellow) means?

2- My personal info at bottom, (Model, OS, Other details) seem to have changed somewhere along the way. I definitely had Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2, and it was working very well. Also included was this from About this Firefox: "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2 FBSMTWB" And I had Safari info: Version 4.0.3 (4531.9) ... So you see the "Other Details:" somehow changed, and I don't know how or when.

3- I'll describe Firefox opening window: At very top there are 4 different lines, all of which are a dense gunmetal grey.

The first/top line has the 3 colored circles: red, yellow, and green; then in center of top line is "Apple - Support - Discussions - Post Message: Reply"

The 2nd line (also grey) has: "Most Visited - Getting Started - Latest Headlines - (Untitled) - Alternet: Goodbye, D... - Amazon.com: New Y... - Financial Intelligenc... - Christiane Amapou.. >> "

3rd grey line: a white > inside a blue circle White window with: "Google Yahoo! SEARCH bing" w/a down arrow.... Then "Search" in blue oblong space. Then blue + Add Buttons"

4th grey line: Apple - Support - Discussions - P..., with a + tab.

After the 4th line the window begins.... which is now on this Apple Discussions page.

I think that's as far as I should go for now, as I do not know what comes next without trying to copy from open home page.

Hope this is not too jumbled (as is obviously my thinking on it is), and that someone can begin to understand what happened to Mozilla Firefox.

Hopefully,
Beverly

Hi! Open Firefox and go to the menu bar at the top and then click on view and come down to toolbars and make sure there are check marks beside navigation toolbar, search and bookmarks toolbar. See if that fixes your problem. I have seen upgrades somehow change these settings and you think something has disappeared. As for the spinning beachball it often means that either the machine doesn't have sufficient ram, the hard drive is nearly full or a page isn't loading fully. Tom

Oh, my gosh!!! It worked. The Navigation tool bar was NOT checked, so I did
check it, and I think most everything is up there now. Although the top sections are still that steely grey color. Is that usual?
AND.... my home page is not there, only the Google search bar is there. Do you know of a way to get my old home page back?

And should I update the info at bottom: "Model: OS: Other Details:"...?

I really can't thank you enough, and you just went straight to the problem, where
it seems only one thing was missing....
With great appreciation to you, Tom!

Hi Tom....

Here's more "duh?" from me. You said to navigate to my home page, but I don't know where it is. It was originally on the start window that first opens.

I did go up to Firefox in topmost line, then down to preferences -- Got a window
named "Main".... so clicked on Main switch, then Start up showed: When Firefox starts: "Show my home page"

Then 3 line down was "Use Current Page", which I clicked on.

But the home page didn't appear. I can't clearly remember what it was named, --might have been "Earthlink home page" (More duh?) And I did have my name on it at top somewhere. There were news items, etc., dates and time, weather, and
stuff like that.

What did I do wrong?

More appreciation,
Beverly

Hi! Ok In the address bar type www.earthlink.com and hit enter which takes you to the earthlink homepage. Then at the top left of that page there's a button taht says myearthlink. Click on that and it takes you to the myearthlink home page where you can log in. Go ahead and log yourself in and then that should be the home page you want. Now go to the Firefox preferences as before and set the home page as we discussed earlier. Tom
