SEND MAIL PROBLEMS

Many times can't send. Use fix :
"In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP -- choose Edit Server List. Next be sure there only once reference to this SMTP in the list.
Next click on the Advanced tab in this window, and change the Authentication to None, and no Username or Password. Save, and retest.
The Port should either be Use Default Port List, or Use Custom Port and enter 25."
Works, but doesn't last very long.
Any help with a more permanent fix ?

Donald,

With Cox, it seems from most reports that Authentication of None and Use Custom Port 25 should work, when and if at your home venue where Cox is your ISP. However, some people report having to use Password Authentication to get Cox to work. I think the former is probably the best, but your failures on-and-off may be related to interaction between the Incoming and Outgoing for establishing trust. There is a known issue with Cox's implementation of SSL, which is from time-to-time it gets hung up. Typically, when a SMTP works without authentication, connection to the Incoming must be in place.

Try switching off SSL on the Incoming, then quitting and relaunching Mail to see if ability to send returns. Then resume using SSL on the Incoming.

Yes, I just did that and still, for one of my Mail accounts- the one I consider my main account - I just got this message :
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “lorrdon” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.west.cox.net” on port 25 timed out.
What now ?
