Video Transfer from My Sony HD Video Camera

How do I import the files from my Sony HDR-XR100 video camera into Imovie? I am using the USB cable and see the files with a .MTS format but I can't import them.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi miroslavbucek,

I notice you have the Sony HDR-CX520. The issue explained in the following Apple article may solve your problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1793

Your camera is listed on Apple's Camcorder Support page here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290#2
The reference in the right hand column links to the above article.

If you have recorded any video in Standard Definition (MPEG-2), this MUST be erased from the camera before you are able to import High Definition (AVCHD) footage. Import the SD footage to iPhoto before erasing it from the camera - haven't tried this but I believe that's how it's done!

This information was mentioned by "envisioninc" in an earlier post in this topic.

Hope this helps!

Hi -
Open iMovie '09
Plug in your camera via usb, and turn it on.
I believe you have to verify USB mode on the camera.
iPhoto may open, just quit it if it does.
A window will open in iMovie that will allow you to select the clips from your camera that you want to import (or select all of them).
If the window does not open on its own, click the Open Camera Import WIndow button - middle bar, far left, looks like a camera.
Once your files are imported (it may take a while depending on quantity and length of clips), you can start editing.
All this is covered in the manual, menu Help > iMovie Help and search for "Importing video from a USB camcorder or camera".
Hope this helps.
