Running Applejack...

I want to run Applejack to do some repair, however it says in the Read Me: "AppleJack is designed to be run only in single user mode. Running this script while logged in as a user can crash your operating system."
Since I have never run this before and it is my computer, how do I do that ? I normally turn on my computer then put in my Admin password and it boots up...do I need to do something different so I don't crash my OS ?

POWERBOOK G4 17", Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi! This depends on whether you have enabled open firmware. If you have to input a password immediately after starting up you may have open firmware enabled HOWEVER if you start up and the Apple symbol comes up then shows OSX loading and then you are asked for a password to login then it's just a standard startup. When you install Applejack it just installs and you don't try to run it while booted up. You run Applejack by holding down the command(apple) key AND the "s" keys immediately after hitting the power button. What you get is a dark screen with type on it i.e. the command line interface as opposed to a graphical interface. I have found Applejack to be invaluable when the install disc isn't with you and in times when a dvd drive is acting up. Tom
