ATTN Apogee Ensemble users: new firmware update may take 2 steps to complet

Hi guys,

A little warning to Ensemble users. First of all, you may have to run
EnsembleUpdate twice to complete the firmware update as on its first
run it downgrades BCD (whatever that is) while upgrading FPGA. Then on
restart the whole unit becomes fuzzy as **** (in fact that's why I am
posting this warning), don't worry, run the update app for the second
time and update the BCD.

Second, old Maestro configuration files are no longer readable by the
new "Apogee Maestro" app installed by the software update, so you
really have to save them in Logic or in projects before updating if
you want to save time.

Best,

-Andy

The reason why you can't read older Maestro Settings is the "I/O Allocation". Make sure you change your I/O Allocation on the new Apogee Maestro on the same as you did with your last version. Then you should be able to open older settings.

I got the problem that my Ensemble Updater sometimes says that I need to update it and displays the current version 0.0 and sometimes it recognizes it as already updatet. really really strange. I got some other really big issues with my ensemble and logic 9 too....

I have the same as D.K. Gross in my About Apogee panel. (BTW, I was trying to run the updaters in Safe Boot, but the Firmware FPGA would fail. When I ran it from a normal boot, the firmware updated fine.)

Note: the Read Me says it should be "Hardware: D" and the driver should read "2.5.0fc11" which is not the case with Mr. Gross' and my machines. Possibly because this unit is several years old.

Also, my About Apogee has the following entry on the bottom "CPLD: V.1.5" which line is not present in the Read Re's screen grab of what they say the About panel should be saying.

Anyway, seems to be working so far.

Mascotca...does your system work with an external Word Clock?

As far as the Hardware D thing...our boxes are older versions, hence the "C".

Apopgee had me resintall a previous version of the software in order to use my Master Clock..But, in all honestly, the clocks in the Ensemble are so great, I just leave it on Internal for now. I may try and do this software upgrade again as I hope to be going to Snow Leopard soon.

Hi,

I tried to install the firmware update and got stuck at the end, now when I turn on my ensemble i got everything flashing red and cannot do any firmware update anymore, and cannot see the device in maestro, when tying to do the reset as mentioned in the Q&A (push left knob while turning off and then let it reboot) it does nothing but flashing again!

any idea what happend? Is there another way to reset the device?
Note: this is a brand new device, and f *** it up after only 3 minutes 😟

thanks!

I am also having troubles
installed sept 09' upgrade, got the new firmware and lost the ability to keep maestro?
had to go through firmware twice to get unit to operate.
now everytime I turn off ensemble? I lose the the ability to connect with the ensemble.
(I reinstall sept 2009 and it works again until I turn ensemble off for any length of time)

guess I'll try firmware again

I don't know if this is related but since I installed sept 2009, I have lost the lights in ensemble at pre 1,3 as well as headphone 1 (rotary encoders are working and screen display show unit is scrolling through, and I can control parameters from Maestro screen (when Maestro has freshly been installed)

anyone had these issues?

I am also having MAJOR problems. I have run the installers 3 times. It now tells me that my Ensemble does not need upgrading but Maestro does not see my Ensemble. The Identify button is grayed out. I SWEAR that I am done upgrading unless I have to. What was I thinking?

I got a new Mac Pro running Snow Leopard so I have no choice but to upgrade. Now my ensemble is dead in the water.

Peace

I don't know if anyone is still checking this thread...but I'm having some ensemble issues and would love to have any input or ideas on it:

I used to use my 13 inch macbook (not pro) to record music via my apogee ensemble and it worked great. In November of 09 I purchased a new 13 inch macbook pro to replace it. Ever since I've gotten the new computer I'm getting clicks and pops (and sometimes complete cut-outs) in the audio when playing through the ensemble from any source (itunes, logic, garage band, online players.) I've spent lots of time on the phone with apogee and they even had me mail the ensemble to them to verify it was working correctly, they couldn't get it to replicate the problem. Here's what I know:

-My macbook pro and maestro updates are current (at least as far as apogee and I can tell)
-It's not the common problem found online of having other devices plugged in at the same time as the ensemble.
-It doesn't seem to be a problem with my macbook pro's functionality...running great and had it tested by the apple people.
-It's not power related (changed power sources and sent it through a good power conditioner.)
-It happens both through the outputs of the ensemble to my monitors and also through the headphone jacks on the front
-It's not the firewire cable (we've tried swapping it with another.)
-My friend also owns a 13 inch macbook pro purchased in 09 and the problem happens when we swapped out his computer with mine. (this seems to eliminate any chance of it being a problem specific to my computer, but maybe not my model of computer.)

So, I don't know. I love the ensemble and I'm hoping to be able to keep using it in the future. In my opinion it stands in a league of it's own among firewire interfaces so I don't know what I would replace it with (or even if I could afford it.) My theory at this point is that perhaps at least some of the newer 13 inch (at least) macbook pro's have an issue that apple and/or apogee need to do firmware updates on.

Is anyone else having this problem? I feel like I'm going crazy or missing something stupid...feel free to show me if I am.

thanks,
isaac
