Startup Chime and volume

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, whenever my computer is turned on the chime is very loud as well as volume once logged in. I deleted the soundpref plist, however the problem still persists. Any suggestions?

Thank you, however I am aware of how to adjust the volume on my computer. The problem is that the volume does not remain at the level I set before turning my computer off. When I turn my imac on the next day, the chime is incredibly loud and the volume level I set the night before has increased by 20%. This was never an issue on 10.5. This change occurred after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Ok.. try resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, instructions here.

Restore PRAM and NVRAM to Defaults :
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.
7. Your computer’s PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values.

It corrects ...

Contents of PRAM
Some Macintosh computers may not have all the settings described below. For Mac OS X information, refer to Mac OS X: What's Stored in PRAM?

HI,

*"Which basically means their is no solution to my problem."*

Not in my book 😉

Are you using external speakers? If not...

Boot from another user account. Shut dow the iMac, then restart. See if the problem persists.

If it does, then the problem is system wide, if it doesn't, then the problem is isolated to your admin account only.

If this occurs just in your account, try deleting this file.

com.apple.Components2.LocalCache.AudioComponents

It's here: ~/Library/Caches.

Drag that file to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your iMac.

Hi CellaMarr

I hope this fix below helps you, it did for me!

Click on this link, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10097003&#10097003, which is another post in the Apple Discussions, it has a fix for your Mac.

As a safety measure I did not delete the files straight away, I moved them to the trash ready to use the 'put back' facility if the problem was not fixed.

Let me know how you get on.
