I used to have Quicktime Pro, which had an Export option in the File menu. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, that function has disappeared. How do you convert video formats now?
Apple’s Share button hints at a simplified method of converting and exporting video. Whereas QuickTime 7 has an Export option that let you choose from different codecs and customize your audio and video options, QuickTime X only has the aforementioned Share choices as well as slightly-updated version of the Save For Web option of QuickTime 7, and a Save As menu item that offers presets for Apple devices and 480p and 720p videos. Interestingly, applications such as iMovie—which are built on QuickTime—still offer the same custom export options as they did under Leopard. If you really want to customize output, QuickTime 7 Pro is still an option if you have it.

ive been working with FCP studio for about a year with no problem. Then i installed Snow Leopard.
BIG MISTAKE! now i cant export a quicktime movie. It (qt) starts to export, you see the timeline go to about 23-33 % (the blue progress thingy) but when you check the file there is only about 10 seconds of video. It's almost as though there is a setting enabled which tells it only to export 10 seconds worth of material. tried different clips mostly under two minutes with no joy.
very frustrated!!! things were working perfectly before Snow Retard!
HELP!!!!!
"/Applications/QuickTime Player.app/Contents/Resources" contains most of the static settings of QTX in .plist files (simple text files under the UTF-8 encoding and written with XML syntax). Under "SaveAsExportPresets.plist", you can edit the list of other export .plist files to load into QTX.
Wikipedia states a pretty significant piece of information about Mac OS X. "Closed source (*with open source components*)" as it's Source Model. Keep that in mind whenever you find a problem with your Mac.
If Quicktime 7.6.4 is the only option, how do we get Quicktime 7.6.4 for SL? On Apple's web page it only lists 76.4 for Leopard and Tiger. If you download the Leopard you get an error trying to install. I don't understand why Apple changed it export options.
I have a QT Pro license so QT 7.6.3 was moved to the Utilities folder. I just don't understand why, when it was updated for Leopard and Tiger, it wasn't updated for SL. And I would still like to know why Apple dropped all the encoding options.
My question relates to the originators question of upgrading to SL and loosing the export command in Quicktime. But I don't think it relates to QT 7.6.3/4 it relates to Quicktime X. You can do a "Save As ..." and the only options are "Movie" or "iPhone" The "Movie" option just puts a wrapper around the original encoded media.
So, your position is that QT X is only a player? Wasn't there pre-release hype that QT X would merge the player and Pro capabilities into one application?
And if the Pro features are only available in 7.6.X, if Apple does not release a compatible version for SL, how are we supposed to keep up?
QuickTime X has some features previously only found with the Pro upgrade. It does not include all the feature of Pro, however.
The second part of your statement doesn't make any sense to me. Apple has given us a "compatible" version of QuickTime Player that works just fine in Snow Leopard.
dont know if i'm glad or sad to hear that someone else has the same problem as me with FCP. I'm seriously thinking of wiping and reinstalling leopard and hoping everything will be back to what it was, a fully working machine. Went on holiday for 2 weeks and hoped there might be an update in the meantime!
the really annoying thing is this is the only problem i'm having, everything else seems to be working fine
