Update problem

I have a MacBook pro that I updated the HDD, I got a 500 GB WD, I'm very happy with it and I never had a problem until now. I bought the Snow Leopard OS update and when I tried to install it I saw this sign saying that the update cannot be done because the partition of the HDD it is not GUID, it suggest me to re-partition the HDD but that means that I will lose everything on the drive.

Is there any way to update the OS without repartitioning the HDD?

Macbook Pro, Iphone3Gs, Ipod, D300, got tired of PC issues, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I think most anyone here who responds to your question will urge you to make a backup of your disk before you upgrade the OS -- irrespective of your need to erase the drive in order to set the right format first. I would say, do that before you do anything more with your hard drive, which I'm guessing is somehow corrupted.
