Youtube Subscriptions?

Hey guys,

I love my Apple TV. But my YouTube subscriptions never get updated. I've tried logging out and back in, deleting and readding my account, restarting, hard restarting, restoring defaults, etc. Nothing works. Is there a maximum limit on the number of YouTube subscriptions that the Apple TV will list?

I do have the same problem. As far as i am a german customer i get the following error-messages when adding favorites to my account through my apple tv: "Es wurde kein Inhalt gefunden. Beim der Kommunikation mit Youtube ist ein Problem aufgetreten. Versuchen Sie es später erneut."

I'm trying to add favorites for several weeks now, but it still doesn't work.

you have to remember that appletv (and the iphone) does not have access to all the content on youtube, for varying reasons.

1) the uploading user may have opted out of syndication, which means the videos can only be viewed on the youtube website.

2) the videos on youtube are not automatically appletv/iphone compatible, and youtube have to convert them to h264 before they are viewable. youtube is in the process of converting all the content, but it will take quite some time to get to a stage where it is close to 100%.

I too have this problem. I get the "Cannot Connect" error when I try to view a subscription list under YouTube. I can understand if the video isn't compatible with Apple TV but when my iPod Touch gets a video it can't watch, I get an error saying "This video is not compatible with iPod." Shouldn't the list at least show up whether the videos are compatible or not?

I also get the error on my iPod Touch for subscriptions, too...not sure if this an Apple error or a YouTube error. Either way it's annoying.

if the video is not compatible then it won't show up on the list or by a search (that is certainly my experience anyway).

if you are getting a "cannot connect" then you could try logging out of youtube and back in again (on the appletv).

can't comment on the ipod touch, but on my iphone youtube subscriptions works the same as they do on appletv (ie everyone i subscribe to works fine - i just usually need to wait a little longer before a new video appears on them compared to the youtube website).

I have this problem as well. Seems to be a design flaw that Apple should have taken care of... I don't know... by the 3.0 update?!

which particular problem do you have? as many people have chimed in with varying different issues.
as above, not all youtube content is compatible (and this is outwith apples control).

At least half of my subscriptions do not show up on Apple TV, and this is also a problem on my iPhone. This is definitely not a user error on my part.

as i previously said, this is due to the content not being converted for use on iphone or appletv by youtube, it is NOT a fault with either device.

I'm having the EXACT same issue with my Apple TV. I have about 15 channels I subscribe to on YouTube. Many of them are daily vloggers. I have a hard time believing that seemingly overnight, YouTube would not convert content to work on iPhones or Apple TV's that have worked for months prior.

In addition to this, I can pull my subscriptions on my iPod Touch and they are all there. I log in with my Apple TV and it shows no new content.

I'm not sure how Apple TV is interfacing with YouTube, but it seems to clearly be an issue with the software on Apple's part. The obvious solution to this is to simply provide a Safari type browser for the Apple TV.

Why is it that Safari is on my iPod Touch and NOT my Apple TV? The Apple TV is basically an Mac Mini. I'm assuming Apple doesn't want people bypassing Apple Store purchases by watching movies and television shows on Hulu or Network web sites.

because it's an itunes extender.

no it's not

or rather Hulu doesn't want people accessing their content from anywhere other than thru their website.

Then why not get a Mac Mini? Heck, even Apple advertise it as an entertainment centre now.
