Formac Studio TVR and FCP

I'm trying to export a clip I made in FCP. I have Formac Studio TVR, and have tried using the export function of Formac Studio and Print to Tape with FCP to copy a FCP project onto VHS tape.

How do I do that?

Don't know if the Formac Studio TVR is compatible with FCP, but you can try these steps:

Shane's Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

I suggest that you do a two step process. First export your clip you made in FCP as a self-contained Quicktime movie. If you have already created a Formac storage folder, place the QT file in that. If not, make a folder and make sure the Formac preferences are set to identify that folder.
Then, open Formac, select clips and then you should see the QT movie of your clip. Select the export, and assuming you have already connected your VCR to the Formac, you can export your clip to a blank VHS tape. This worked for me when requested to generate a VHS version of a project.

Mike,

I have clicked on the clips icon and seen the list of QuickTime movies in my computer. I click the export button, and the spinning beach ball spins for a few moments, but nothing happens.

I connected the RCA plugs in the Out ports of the Studio TVR, and in the In ports of the VCR. Of course the Studion is connnect by firewire to my computer. I set the VCR to record, and click the export button, but what get's copied is what channel the STudio is set on.

Anything wrong with my set up?

TIA,

Hank

Within Formac, I assume you selected the QT movie of your clip first, then selected Export. The QT version of your clip should have appeared in the Formac window when you selected your QT version of your clip. You should see a drop down tab requiring you to confirm video out. Its "video out" that starts the flow to the VCR. If you see none of this, you need to contact Formac.
If you have a suitable DV CAM, that would allow you to export directly from FCP and skip the two step process I suggested for Formac.
