Hi bluemagpie,

The beeping noise you're hearing on startup is most likely an issue with a bad stick of RAM in your machine, which is causing the machine to fail POST. What is the RAM configuration in your MacBook? Is the RAM 3rd party or did it come (as it is now) from the factory with this configuration? You can try a few different things to see if you can pinpoint the issue as there should be two sticks of RAM in your machine:

1.) Take stick 1 (top) out and attempt to power on the unit
2.) Take stick 2 (bottom) out and attempt to power on the unit
3.) Take stick 1 and place into the bottom DIMM slot and attempt to power on the unit
4.) Take stick 2 and place into the top DIMM slot and attempt to power on the unit

Obviously, another option is to take the unit to an Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store and have them perform this steps as well. But this is a step that you can perform, at home, with a steady hand.

First check the following Apple Support article and try its solution
_Intel-based Mac Power On Self Test RAM error codes_ by using the _Apple instructions for RAM removal and installation_.

If the above does not solve the problem, can we assume this was the first time you tried to start up the MacBook in question, and that you might not know exactly what you have? If so, the next step is to positively identify the MacBook model so that you can research what kind of RAM belongs in it.

This is easy once you know the serial number of your individual unit. Since it does not startup, you'll need to find the serial number located either on the Apple box that contained the MacBook or on your MacBook itself. _Learn how in this Apple article_.

Once you have the serial number, go to _this Apple Support page_ and in the far right hand column under "AppleCare" click on the link for "Check your warranty status." You will be taken to a secure page where you can enter the serial number and the country in which you are located, click the "Continue" button and the Online Service Assistant will give you a brief description such as "MacBook (13-inch Late 2007)."

Make a note of that and on _this Apple Support page_ match it up with the appropriate link for specifications. Scroll half way down the matching specifications page and you will find specifics for "Memory" in the "Configurations" section. Borrow or purchase some correct RAM so that you can verify that improper or faulty RAM was the cause of the problem.

Hopefully you have the original grey-labeled Install DVD set that came from Apple with the computer, as you will then want to run the Apple Hardware Test (located on said DVD) to check the operability/integrity of the rest of the MacBook's components.
