Can anyone tell me what a small gray exclamation mark in a triangle in a circle means? It's in the sidebar to the right of the inbox and the pop3. in mail. I'm wondering if this is why I can't receive email with Snow Leopard.

The grey exclamation point you're seeing is Apple Mail's attempt to alert you to the fact that some detail about how the mail application retrieves mail is having a problem retrieving mail.
Is this GMail ? If so, it's possible there's a glitch with 10.6 compatibility.
Can you still retrieve mail from this account?
You can access web based mail on Safari if necessary.
Got the same problem since the upgrade. I collect mail from 18 accounts in Mail and they would come in one after another seamlessly. Now one or two accounts will come up with the gray triangle each time mail is picked up. It's not too much of an issue as the next time Mail checks the server it clears the accounts that it previously had a problem with and that issue moves to another account. It is a bug however.
Your're right about a problem with mail. I can send but not receive mail from this account I am using Apple Mail v. 4 . This all began after uograding to Snow Leopard.
