Why do encrypted PDfs now appear as blank pages?

Since installing Snow Leopard all of my encrypted PDFs appear as blank pages once I type in the password. I was wondering if anyone knew how and if this can be fixed.

Hmm, I don't know.

I just encrypted a PDF using Preview and had no trouble viewing after giving the password. I tried closing Preview and opening the encrypted PDF again, gave the password, and the contents were viewable. No problems here when the PDF has been encrypted with Preview.

Otherwise, I don't have any encrypted PDFs try out.

Have you tried Adobe Acrobat Reader? I'd rather not have the bloated app on my computer, but I keep it around for accessibility testing with new PDFs I modify in an unconventional manner, e.g. my own apps.

I'm sorry, but in what way?

Do you mean the encrypted document you want to view shows nothing but a blank page when you give the password?

Or do you mean the icon for the PDF is blank and doesn't show a preview? I'd imagine that's because it's encrypted and so probably assumes a preview shouldn't be shown.

Or do you mean encrypting the PDF document causes the document to initially appear blank? Is it still blank once you close it, reopen it and provide the password?

Maybe some steps of what you are doing so it can be replicated by others to try out, too.

I have a PDF which has been password protected so that one can only view and print it. It is viewable with Acrobat Reader but Preview just presents blank pages and some bullet points. There is a bug here. The PDF file was probably created on a Windows machine (by someone else).

There is no point testing Preview's own security against itself. One needs to look at the Acrobat/Preview compatibility under Snow Leopard. It's broken, I suggest, with password protected PDFs compatible with Acrobat 7 or above.
