    06StangGT,

Have you got your HP 6500 printer to work as this thread is about the HP 6500 printer/scanner....
I wish people wouldn't hijack this thread and talk about other printers NOT related to the HP 6500...

Can you get the 6500 scanner to work over USB with Snow Leopard???
or have you gotten it to work over ethernet??

I am thinking about buying the 6500 but the scanner must work over ethernet or I will look for something else that does work.
The 6500 is a current all-in-one but HP still has not updated their website regarding 10.6
They only list this model as being compatible with 10.4 and 10.5
I don't see any printers on HP's site that says it is compatible with 10.6 as they seem to be very slow in updating their web site information.
People wanting to buy a new HP can't be sure it is compatible with 10.6 Snow Leopard except thru trial and error.

    Joseph,

The OfficeJet include built in Print, Scan, and Fax drivers, as well as a Utility. It works over USB or Ethernet. At the moment people are working through upgrade issues, but most of them seem to settling down (despite some people having to install the drivers multiple times to get it working). The big issue at the moment is around networking, but these issues don't seem to be limited to HP.

    Just trying to help.

    Chris,

What is the IP address assigned to the printer, and what is the IP address and Subnet Mask assigned to your computer? Bonjour only discovers devices within the local subnet. If the printer is on a different subnet, or outside the range of the subnet for your computer specified by the subnet mask, Bonjour won't see it.

    Andrew,

    Thanks for the reply.

It seems strange that people cannot go to the HP website to find out what current new printer will work with 10.6... A person who wants to buy a new printer from HP has no idea what new model will work and neither will a salesman in any store unless they have tested it themselves. I wouldn't trust a salesman in the store either.

It has been over 2 weeks now that 10.6 has been out and it seems that HP doesn't have anyone to update their current line of printers on their website? That just seems a little slow to me.

I have been waiting for 2 weeks to see some changes on the HP site so I could start thinking about which new model all-in-one printer I would consider purchasing... So far, no changes.

You have been very helpful here on this site for problems and everyone does appreciate that.
However, my 2510 still does not have scanner drivers so that is why I am looking at a newer all-in-one..
I have to be able to scan before I can install 10.6 on my other computers.

If the HP website had the Officejet 6500 listed as being compatible with 10.6 over ethernet, which would include printing, scanning and fax, I would order one today so I could get on with my life...
I would also take your recommendation of a compatible HP all-in-one but I certainly would not listen to any salesman on the floor.
Too bad the HP website doesn't update their printer information in a timely fashion or even after 2 weeks.

    Thanks for all your help

    Joseph,

I understand you can't find anything on the HP.com shopping site (it obviously is geared towards Windows users), but you should be able to find plenty of information if you dig a bit. If you go to the page of either of the Officejet's in the 6500 series, and click on Drivers and Download/Mac OS X, you get a link to the page describing 10.6 support [here|http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&lc=en&dlc=e n&cc=us&lang=en&os=219&product=3795314].

Sure the page is a bit out of date since the 10.6.1 update added the products at the bottom of the page listed as coming soon, but it takes a week or more to update the page. And note that we had the pages there on the day Snow Leopard introduced (unfortunately the products now listed as coming soon were listed available since that was the information we had when we posted the document).

Also, if you go to [http://www.hp.com/go/mac], there is also a statement about 10.6 support.

Unfortunately as I said I don't think you'll ever find anything on the HP.com homepage or shopping page talking about Mac, after all HP is a PC company.

As for the PSC 2510, that is one of the printers I am trying to get scanner support added for, but if that happens, it won't be this month so if you need something sooner, you may indeed want to upgrade. As to what to buy as a replacement, some people have reported getting some pretty impressive deals on the OfficeJet Pro 8500 by trading in their old printer (less then what you would pay for the 6500) since they are on sale in multiple places and have a $50 trade in rebate. I have posted in another thread about this deal.

Anyway, either the Officejet 6500 or Officejet Pro 8500 will be a great choice. And for the record, I myself have and Officejet Pro 8500 on my desk at home.

    Just trying to help.

    Chris,

OK, there should be no reason given this information that your computer can't see the device on your network via Bonjour. So let me as a couple more questions. First, what kind of Airport base station is it and what version of the firmware is installed? Second when you say via a cable to the router, I assume you mean an Ethernet cable and not a USB cable, correct?

Just trying to narrow things down.

    Hi Andrew,

The Router is an german "FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270" which is the cable router as well as the wireless base station.
    Firmware 54.04.76 (latest)

The Printer is connected via Ethernet cable.

OK, now things get more interesting, as I have no idea about that router, or how to configure it. Since the wireless router is also you cable router, there should be some sort of network configuration page for it as well. Again (shooting in the dark here), you may find a page that talks about the range of IP addresses assigned to your network and probably a subnet mask there as well. If you could find that, it may be the problem. Also does the device have any sort of "firewall" in it, or does it restrict traffic between the wired and wireless networks.

    Just trying to help.

    Hi Andrew,

my problem is solved now. I forgot the network-repeater in my system. This one was the trouble maker.
As I mentioned before, my base station is a german "Fritz Box". And repeating the WLAN only works with repeaters from the same company (www.avm.de).
I replaced the repeater from D-Link with an old Fritz Box I had and voilà: Bonjour did its job an saw Scanner and Fax (even through the repeated WLAN).

Thank you for your patience and being lighthouse in the ocean of lost printer access.

    Greetings from Germany

Is there any new information on when a software update will be available so that the HP Officejet 6500 will SCAN with Snow Leopard? I have tried all the suggestions to no avail, and I see the last posting was two weeks ago.

    Thanks

This HP user support page will solve all your problems:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us &lang=en&os=219&product=3795406

I wasted the whole evening last night trying to get my HP6500 to scan, figured it out and noted the problems associated with Snow Leopard after 3 hours (but at the time, I hadn't put 2 and 2 together to realise that the problem was related to Snow Leopard) - then found this web page this morning. If you're still trying to get your OfficeJet 6500 running, a full installer is now available. See my posting in [this|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10274078#10274078] thread for complete details. Note that this installer does not install the In-OS scan components, so if those aren't working we'll still need to work through that here.

I have a power PC G5 using 10.5.8 and the driver software wont install properly. I spent over an hour with HP support and reinstalled 4 times, checked cables, etc.... I can now print but not scan. All the files are not in HP folder. For some reason it just wont install properly.
