HP OfficeJet 6500 Won't Scan :(

I just bought an HP OfficeJet 6500 and hooked it upto my wireless router with the ethernet port. When I added the printer to Snow Leopard, it automatically downloaded the proper drivers. Printing works great, but I can't get it to recognize the scanner.

I have followed all the instructions on this HP support page ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=1153481) including repeatedly removing and reinstalling the Printer from the Print & Fax preferences screen.

The HP support document says a "scan" tab should appear, but one never does. Image Capture and Preview never notice any scanners, either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nick

If you are having problems scanning from an OfficeJet 6500, and you have already done the simple trouble shooting steps like deleting and adding the printer back from the Print & Fax system preference, and you've update to 10.6.1 and the latest HP driver package, please do the following:

Post here all the files you see in the folder /Library/Printers/hp/Frameworks

We may have identified one cause of the problem, but I need more data.

Thanks for working with us.

Hello,

I have about the same problem with my Officejet 6310 (network printer). Uninstalled everything, loaded the latest drivers via apple-update. The printer installs after typing in the IP, but no scanner.

Interesting detail: My network monitor says "CIJScannerRegister" tries to get contact on 192.167.178.255, as long as I try to get the scanner. Isn't that the program for getting Canon-Scanners?

Thanks for helping the community.

Littleme57,

These are what should be there. Let me as how you have your computer connected to your printer. In otherwords the computer is wirelessly connected to my network and my printer is using Ethernet to connect to my Airport Extreme base station.

Also, did you try deleting and re-adding your printer queue?

Sorry, there are multiple people posting, and I'm just trying to keep everyones problems separate to help me diagnose them.

06StangGT,

Have you got your HP 6500 printer to work as this thread is about the HP 6500 printer/scanner....
I wish people wouldn't hijack this thread and talk about other printers NOT related to the HP 6500...

Can you get the 6500 scanner to work over USB with Snow Leopard???
or have you gotten it to work over ethernet??

I am thinking about buying the 6500 but the scanner must work over ethernet or I will look for something else that does work.
The 6500 is a current all-in-one but HP still has not updated their website regarding 10.6
They only list this model as being compatible with 10.4 and 10.5
I don't see any printers on HP's site that says it is compatible with 10.6 as they seem to be very slow in updating their web site information.
People wanting to buy a new HP can't be sure it is compatible with 10.6 Snow Leopard except thru trial and error.
