Memory Compatibility 667MHz v. 1066MHz

Can I use the faster 1066MHz RAM in my older MacPro that uses 667MHz RAM? The faster RAM is significantly less expensive and I'd like to be able to use it.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Early MacPro

The faster memory won't have the large heatsinks needed for you Mac Pro.

And, there is no advantage to using to the faster rated memory and it may not even work in your model.

And they aren't ECC FBDIMMs... sounds like DDR3 rather than DDR2

I'm not looking for speed; I'm looking for price. 667MHz RAM is 5x the cost of the 1066MHz RAM. I.e., 667MHz is $500/2GB v. 1066MHz @ $100/2GB. ***** to be me.

Where are you looking. I found a 2 GB update kit at Data Mem for $84.00, and single 2 GB modules for $55.00. I have no idea where you found it for $500.00.

$500 was from the Apple website. I got smart and checked out other vendors. Thanks all for your help.

But can you actually use the new 1066 stuff in an older Mac Pro (2006). Obviously you'd need to add heatsinks but would it run like he 800 stuff does (i.e at a lower 667 speed) ?

667 x 2 = what? why the front side bus of course.

And what is the 2008 fsb? 1600MHz No surprise it uses 800MHx FBDIMM RAM

You can't put stuff in and have it work, you can't cross DDR3 where the memory controller doesn't know and these things aren't backward compatible.

Lay off the cool-aide.
