How to: SHARP AR-M236/AR-M237/AR-M276/AR-M277 in Snow Leopard
I wanted the PPD for our AR-M277 in Snow Leopard, but by default it isn't there and the driver is no longer available for download at the US Sharp site.
To install the PPD for any SHARP AR-M236/AR-M237/AR-M276/AR-M277, download the 10.5 driver for the AR-M276 at the UK site, also linked here:
http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/files/Copier%2CPrinter%2CMFP/AR_Product/ARM276/A RM27638.sit
Extract it, mount it (the disk image is AR-P17, the print controller shared by these models) and open the pkg in Pacifist.
In Pacifist, Navigate to PPDs/Content/Resources/en.lproj and install PPD for the model you care about. If you want to extract it for later use, just copy it to /Library/Printers/PPDs/Content/Resources/en.lproj, I change the ownership to root and make the permissions match the other files there.
When you add your printer, chose IP, LPD, enter the IP of your printer. In the Print Using drop down, choose *Select Printer Software...* and type SHARP in the search box.
You should see your printer along with the OS installed AR-161 and AR-M257
I recommend you save this file, as it seems Sharp isn't going to offer these older drivers indefinitely.
