Home Sharing feature not working in iTunes 9

There is a function in the Advanced Menu to Turn on/off Home Sharing. I was confused since the icon had disappeared but this function worked for me

Me too - on both Macs on my network sharing doesn't work - Library sharing between the same two macs stopped working in iTunes 8.
I was hoping iTunes 9 would fix it.

The third machine on my network is a PC - and it all works fine on that!

I have the same problem but with an older iMac (main) and an MacBook Air (secondary). iTunes shows 2 of 5 computers authorized.

I have de/re-athorized the MBA several times but I still get the "not authorized" error.

I can't figure out how to transfer music from one macbook to another. My fiance and I are both on iTunes, we authorized each other (per the help section in itunes) and we can listen to each other's music, but we can add (click and drag) anything to each other's libraries. Please help!!

I had the same problem as most posters here - simply put, the solution is to **use the same iTunes ID when you turn Home Sharing on**

Go to 'Advanced', then 'Turn On Home Sharing'. In the window that comes up, on all the computers that you want to use Home Sharing on, ENTER THE SAME ID on every computer.

I'm also having trouble getting Home Share to work. I set it up on two macs - one and iMac G4 800Mhz with Mac Os X 10.4.11 and the other a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 also with Mac Os X 10.4.11.

I can access the iMac's library just fine from the Dual 1.42 GHz machine and that works just fine. The trouble kicks in when I try to access the library from the iMac. When I launch iTunes, I can see the library under Shared with the Home Share icon. However, when I click on it to see the library, the home share section disappears and I am taken back to the local music library.


Any ideas on what the problem might be.

I am having the problem on my Mac, but not my Windows PC. I have reauthorized the both, and only the Windows PC works. The Mac can see my Windows library for streaming but no for home sharing. The Windows PC can see the Mac for home sharing just fine, before and after the reautorisation.

This is very important and I should have said the same - Home share needs to use the same ID on every computer.

I can't seem to get sharing to work either. I lose the sharing icon as soon as I get the sharing set up. If anyone has a solution to this problem it would be helpful as I am getting very frustrated.

To import items from other libraries using Home Sharing:
Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing.
Type your iTunes account name and password, and then click Create Home Share.
Using the same user name and password, repeat steps 1 and 2 on each computer.
To import items from another computer, select the computer (below Shared), and drag items from its library to yours.
To automatically import iTunes Store items that are downloaded to a computer you’re Home Sharing with, select “Automatically import new purchases from [Computer Name].”

Go to-Preferences->Sharing->Share my library on my local network (check box). From there you can check off what you want to show on the other computers on your network.

That would be for viewing/listening only. Home Sharing is to allow importing of files as well. This is a new feature that some are having difficulty with. Follow the iTunes Help that I posted earlier in order to get Home Sharing to work properly.

I've now brought a 3rd Mac into the mix, my daughters MacBook. Her MacBook will link up to my iMac and MacBook, but I still can't get my two Macs to share???

This makes no sense whatsoever. Using the same user ID's throughout.

Can you tell me where you are seeing the option to “Automatically import new purchases from..."? Tks
