iTunes 9, sorting multidisc Album by Artist & Album by Year broken!

I've checked this on multiple installs (all on Macs). Sorting multi-disc albums with Artist by Album and Artist by Year results in tracks not following the disc number, so track 1 disc 1 is followed by track 1 disc 2, then track 1 disc 3, etc.

Very, very annoying bug! I always have my collection set on "album by year" - yeah, it's anal, but I like to have my albums in the correct order by artist. I'm not going to start messing, though, as I'd like to think there'll be an update very soon ... hopefully! If not, I'll just go back to version 8.

Oh, and for the record, I noticed this whilst listening to "The White Album", too!

Hey guys

The problem I'm getting since updating to the new version of iTunes is that all of my double albums (all of the one's i've imported from cd and bought on iTunes) like The Essential Michael Jackson - which is 2 discs, etc have changed from being split in their correct format. So now i have it like this: Track 1, Track 1, Track 2, Track 2, Track 3, Track 3 and so on and so on. It's happened to all of my double albums.

To put this to the test I looked for other double albums to buy off iTunes and I've just downloaded Pink Floyd's The Wall: and guess what??? It's put all of the track listings wrong in the libary, so something is definitely wrong here!

Are you guys having the same problems?

Glad to know this isn't just me. Ripped the remastered White Album and couldn't get it to sort properly for the life of me, even after spending who knows how long retagging and tweaking everything.

Ya same. So glad. Well for now, all we can do is sort it with the Disc #/artist/album artist and other tabs to make it in the right order... for now. It's still rather annoying have to keep going back and change it.

Shows how one listens to albums regularly when they hear the wrong song coming after the one you're listening to.

As I hinted earlier you can work around this bug by using sequential track numbers over all the discs of the album. For the White Album my tracks are numbered 1 to 30 of 30 with 1-17 marked as Disc 1 of 2 and 18-30 marked as Disc 2 of 2. I've done this since the early days of Windows Media Player as it had no proper support for multi-disc albums back then.

Might as well add my name to the list. Updated to iTunes 9 and double clicked on Craig Armstrong's score for The Incredible Hulk, which is a 2 CD set, and noticed everything out of order as described with Track 1 of each disk displayed at the top then both 2's and so forth.

I've used an iPod and iTunes for almost 4 years now and have noticed that every time Apple adds a feature to either they always seem to screw up some minor detail that ends up being annoying as ****; and more often than not it is something to do with track sorting. I mean for the iTunes 9 upgrade why would they even have to mess with track sorting?

I can't for the life of me see why Apple deigned to deem a change necessary. Album by Artist was a great addition whenever that was added as it allowed you to sort albums with multiple artists easily, and now someone seems to have forgotten to test it with multi disc albums or something... Ah well, I guess this means downloading another 100MB installer when iTunes 9.0.0.0.0.1 comes out in a few days, and then deleting the shortcuts for iTunes and Quicktime it forces onto the desktop again, and replacing the quick launch icon which has been broken, and....

It just works ¬_¬

I have submitted a bug to http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html. Please feel free to use the template below if you wish to make your opinion heard:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Updating to iTunes 9 has introduced a bug whereby the software doesn't recognize and separate multi CD albums.

Before the update, two disks would be correctly split 1-9, 1-9 but iTunes 9 instead lists the albums: Track 1, Track 1, Track 2, Track 2, Track 3, Track 3 and so on. This is present in all albums with more than one CD.

Furthermore the white background in grid view is hideous and should be reverted as soon as possible or a setting implemented so that the user can make a choice about the background colour.

Yours faithfully,

<Your-Name>
