Q: iTunes LP download not completing Err= -19

Just installed iTunes 9 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 and downloaded iTunes LP- Mayhem Take Me Away (Logan De Gaulle Remix) Single by Tyrese for $2, just to see what the whole deal was and it reaches the end of the download and iTunes gives an Error -19, stating,

**"There was a problem downloading “iTunes LP - Mayhem Take Me Away (Logan de Gaulle Remix) / Mayhem Take Me Away (Logan de Gaulle Remix) - Single / Tyrese”. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.**
**Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."**

Every other download works fine, just the iTunes LP will not finish completing the download. I even deleted the downloads folder inside the iTunes music folder to start a fresh download of the iTunes LP and I still get the same errror. I also tried downloading it using another iTunes library located on my internal drive inside my music folder and still the same error.

Please help anybody, thanks.

I've just had the same issue downloading the new Muse album. All music downloaded successfully but after downloading the iTunes LP the operation stops while processing the file (err = 19) and 'an error occurred while reading the device'

I've also experienced the access privilege error reported in the previous posts.

    What's going on?

As people have pointed out, external drives are one of the causes of the problem. So I went and did a little reading on iTunes 9.0. iTunes 9.0 has a new file structure that isn't iTunes>iTunes Music>Band Name/Movies but iTunes>iTunes Media>Music/Movies etc. After spending money on the new Muse album to try out a theory, I have come to the conclusion that your iTunes folder will not of updated to the new folder name and format. After some trial and error, I found that the only way to change the folder layout correctly (without affecting iTunes) is to do it manually.

    1. Go to your iTunes folder
    2. Make a new folder inside 'iTunes' and rename it 'iTunes Media'
    3. Rename 'iTunes Music' to 'Music' and then move it into 'iTunes Media'
    4. Locate 'Movies' and 'TV Shows' folders inside 'Music' and drag them out and then into the 'iTunes Media' folder
    5. Create 2 more folders but inside 'iTunes Media' and rename one 'Automatically Add to iTunes' and the other 'Downloads' (Note if you have near complete downloads, finish them before this step)
    6. Start up iTunes

Hopefully after the sixth step your iTunes should display your music and should download the LP correctly (most likely it will restart your LP download from 0%).

    Hope this helps.

Before you start moving things around, you need to seriously think twice or maybe even 4 or 5 times. No only are you risking making things worse, but when Apple gets it fixed, you might be even worse off. It is frustrating, but give them some time to get it fixed the right way instead of some kind of hack that is only temporary.

    It's easier if you do it this way;
iTunes > File > Library > Organize Library... > Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization

It's one of the first things I did, but I can't remember how I found out about it - haven't had any problems since.

That sounded like a good idea. But executing "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" doesn't do the job as expected. This option is now greyed-out but My music is still in "Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/".

So, who can solve this riddle?

Apple should be extremely unhappy about all this. What a complete failure of a product launch (iTunes LP) this is.

    So is mine:-
    ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

but inside that last level are all these folders:
    Audiobooks
    Automatically Add to iTunes
    Downloads
    Mobile Applications
    Movies
    Music
    Podcasts
    TV Shows

How is it a hack when you are just updating the folder names to what they should be post version 9.0?

I made a fresh new iTunes library account and iTunes automatically set up the new folder (iTunes media) within the OS X default drive (no external hard drive) and still to no avail, the LP refuse to download, with iTunes claiming that it is 'unavailable'. I have lodged a call with Apple and they are apparently working on the situation. I can wait a little longer, but this is quite dissapointing really. Can hardly trust pre-ordering any more (delayed shipping on SN, LPs screwing up, etc. too many hassles).

For all you "err -19"ers, I tried what a previous user posted about updating your library structure using File > Library > Organize Library, and then checking the "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" box. I deleted my "Downloads" folder in my iTunes library directory, re-downloaded my Dave Matthews LP, and everything works just perfectly now. Give it a try!
Thanks for keeping this thread alive!

I can't personally test that theory completely, so I'm not able to say if it will work in my case.

What I did was create a new user account on my Mac, then launched iTunes. It created a new Library in the new directory path format for iTunes 9. But when I attempted to check for downloads using my iTunes account, it automatically gave me the error about being "Unable to check for available downloads. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

I started getting that error when I emailed Apple about the original error -19. I originally got the same email from them that everyone else here got about checking my firewall software, web accelerators, who my ISP was, and all sorts of other nonsense. The gal removed my downloads from my queue, then added them again. But now I can't connect at all. So I'm not sure what other changes she made, or what things she may have done in order to log into my account and do the deletion and adding. But the end result is that I am no longer able to connect to the iTunes Store, which is even FURTHER away from solving this problem.

Having said that, I'm not sure the directory path structure or location is the culprit here, since there are other users here reporting that they have the same error with their library in the default location. Good to hear that it worked for you though!

A quick look on Google shows that this error is starting to grow, and Apple is going to look pretty bad here soon if this isn't addressed. iTunes LP is going to be a big joke, and word of mouth is going to kill it before it ever gets off the ground.
