Changing PostgreSQL Port

Is there a way to change postgresql to listen on a different port - NOT 8820? Ideally, I would like to change its listening port to 1433, but if I make the change in the postgresql.conf file, it is still listening on 8820. Any insight into this would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.7), and Windows 7
