I can't update Genius - Error (4002)

I had exactly the same error 4002. Deleting cookies didn't help. Here's what fixed it:

Turned off Genius.
Quit iTunes.
Deleted iTunes Library Genius.itdb.
Launched iTunes.
Turned on Genius.
Let Genius do its thing, while I went to bed.

In the morning, Genius was ready to go, with iTunes 9 Genius Mixes and all.

I got mine working by turning off genius in iTunes, deleted the cookies folder in user library, deleted iTunes Library Genius.itdb in the iTunes folder restarted my iMac also turned off home sharing not sure if it was anything to do with it.

Hi I saw all the suggestions below.I had the same error.I turned of the Genius facility in the main iTunes "Store" menu and then reactivated the Genius facility. All my iTunes info was reentered but I now have my Genius mixes.

I fixed mine in the following manner. Turned Genius off. Turned it back on. It asked me for my info again, user, password, etc. In iTunes went to in the menu: store-update Genius and it worked. I feel this will fix a lot of these problems.

Turn Genius off in Itunes then turn it back on. Problem solved

This worked for me. Toggle genius off and then back on. In itunes Store>turn genius off. Close itunes. Open itunes, Store>turn genius on.

iTunes seems to rely on Safari to reach the iTunes Store. Opening Safari, which I do not normally use, and removing the cookies seems to have done the trick.

Bingo. I was on a PC that I hadn't used in months (normally a Mac guy); don't think the platform matters, though. My bet is that the iTMS TOS changed re:Genius updates, and was generating an error basically meaning "you haven't signed off on giving Apple your data in the way the most recently worded contract states." Hardly an unknowable error if that's true, though, and the iTunes programming staff should have the used agree to the new TOS and do whatever else is needed in this situation.

I found the following worked for me (PC):

1. Turn off Genius (Store/Turn Off Genius)
2. Close iTunes
3. Restart iTunes
4. Turn on Genius (Store/Turn on Genius)

Worked perfectly and everything back to normal !

Forget all this stuff about dumping cookies, genius file, reinstalling iTunes, rebuilding libraries, restarting iTunes and the computer. If you're connected to the internet through a router chances are that's your problem. At least I'm convinced that was MY problem. Now updating Genius is no problem ever since I bypassed the router and hooked directly into the modem with an ethernet cable and I have a large 440GB library. If this works for you let Apple know about it.

I've tried everything previously on this post and nothing worked, this is what worked for me.
I just got off the phone from apple care and this is what i tried
Firstly delete iTunes but go here first

only follow from point 1 to 20 don't go past point 20 if you want to keep all previous settings intact.
install latest iTunes
update genius - this didn't work for me.
I turned genius off and on - hooray, genius updated and i have all my genius mixes
