Question

Removed 'iTunes Helper' from Login Items - how do I get it back?

Hey All,
When I had some performance issues with SL I removed 'iTunes Helper' from my Login Items.
Now my iTunes doesn't launch when I plug my iPhone in.
Yes, I'm a dumbarse!
How do I get it back? First right answer wins a 'Solved' recommendation.

It is very possible that installing the new version of iTunes (9) would replace that file and make it run. Try that and see. Otherwise I cannot help you much more than that, since I'm not a Mac person.

If it's still missing after you install iTunes 9.0. Open System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items. Control + click on iTunes in your applications folder. Select "Show package contents". Open the "Resources" folder. Locate "iTunes Helper" and drag it to your login items. Either restart your Mac or Log out and log in again.

Hi Jim,
Perfect. Logged out and in again and connected my iPhone and iTunes launched as normal.

Hi, I have the same problem but I've never removed "iTunes helper".
It's like if the installer of iTunes 9 doesn't puts the "iTunes Helper" in the startup items

Hi Zoneur,
Just to be clear on what happened, I intentionally removed iTunes Helper from my start-up list, I just didn't know where to find it to add it back.
Installing iTunes 9 did not put it back for me - I don't think it would override my 'customisation' of the start-up menu.
If I were you, I'd check to see if iTunes Helper is in your start up items (under Accounts in Sys Prefs). If it isn't there (it doesn't really matter why it isn't there) follow the steps above to re-add it.
After I did it, the process worked for me fine.

Hi, iTunes Helper was present before in my startup items.
After installed iTunes 9, iTunes Helper has disapeared from the startup item.
I added it manually and it's working.
But if I create a new account in my mac. iTunes Helper is not present in the startup items

I don't know if you have the same problem, but the iTunes store is very slow and sometimes crash.

Hey Zoneur,
As stated, I don't know why you don't have iTunes Helper in your start-up items - the solution is above.
For the slows & crashes, probably best to search for similar reports in Apple Discussions and if you find no other help, create your own topic thread. One issue per thread is the best way to handle this stuff.
