iTunes 9 Not Recognizing iPod

So i just upgraded to iTunes 9... very interesting and different... cool setup

i attach my iPod (classic, 80gig), and it comes up as connected, and it shows up on my desktop, but it does not appear in iTunes... i can disconnect from the computer no problem, but i get nothing in iTunes... i've tried twice and i still have nothing...

Anyone else having similar problems/ know how to fix this?

I was having the same exact problem, I just updated to iTunes 9 on my mac book and my 4th generation iPod nano was not recognized by iTunes. I left it connected for about 10 to 20 minutes and now my iTunes finally recognized my iPod. Try leaving it connected for a while and see what happens.

Hope this helps!!!

I had this same problem. I also had the problem with the corrupt files. A computer wise friend of mine however was able to get my computer to recognize my ipod again. Somehow, he went into system and reverted back to the old driver from apple. The new driver downloaded with the update seems to conflict with the ipod.
Hope this helps with your problem. I still have corrumpt files.

Same problem. I didn't realize, but my ipod touch gen 2 hasn't connected to itunes (and updated) since 9.10.09, and my itunes apps folder doesnt have any of my apps in it. What should I do?

Report the problems to Apple via the Feedback form. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

*Please do this!* It's the only way we can get them to issue patches to resolve these problems, by making the company aware of them directly.

I had the exact same issue, but I think I've managed to get my iPod Classic up and running again.

I clicked "Enable Disk Use", and after this I was allowed to do a proper restore of the iPod. Now it seems to be working fine again. All my music is present and playable from the iPod again.

Hope this works for you as well.

I can't do this as connecting my iPod to iTunes 9 immediately crashes iTunes, I don't get the option to Enable Disk Use - or even to Restore my iPod - as all I get is the iPod not being recognised and the spinning beach ball of doom.

Aaaaaaarrrgghhh!

Somewhat comforting to know others are in the same boat, although frustrating. I have spent countless hours trying to get my ipod Classic 80 gb back in order. It indicates that I need to restore it. Problems include my Macbook will not boot if iPod connected. It locks at the grey screen. This can be remedied if I unplug iPod and reconnect at the blue screen. The system does not recognize my iPod nor does iTunes most of the time. If I reboot as per above it will usually connect and show in iTunes. Itunes then request that I restore which fails with an error message 1430. I have tried it with both my Mac and Parallels Windows XP. No difference. fails everytime. I have tried reformatting on both systems but this fails with an input/output error. I have tried all of Apple's suggestions at least twice. Disconnected external USB drive, reinstalled a new copy of iTunes 9, unplug and replug in computer, reboots etc, etc, etc to no avail. At this time I have an expensive paper weight. My ipod has never had a single issue until iTunes 9. I am currently on the road and will be trying the same thing with my home iMac when I return tomorrow. May even revert to previous iTunes on back up and give it a try. Completely frustrated. I have long supported Apple and have had nothing but good things to say. This will leave me sour for some time to come. Going digital with my music has caused me much pain starting with my PC and I am nearing the end of my rope. If Apple's attempt to shut out the Pre has resulted in this mess I have to wonder if I will continue to support portable media until they are more reliable and user friendly. Too afraid to synch my Nano and iTouch.

Exactly the same problem here.

Our iPod video 30GB; iPod video 60GB and iPod classic 80GB do not show up in iTunes 9. Not in Leopard, not in Windows XP, not in Windows 7. Some even show a 'generic removable disk' icon. iPod touch 1G; iPod mini and iPhone 3G work properly however.

My MacBook still has iTunes 8, and all iPods work properly in Leopard and XP. What gives???

Just tried reverting back to itunes 8 with no luck. Same problems as with itunes 9 (unrecognized, won't restore and can't reformat). I ran diagnostics this afternoon. As I am not completely familiar with this function I got stuck twice. Tried Auto and could not get past FW as I no not have a firewire cable and pressing menu did not bypass this test. Tried Manual Mode and attempted to test the hard drive. I do not have my AC adapter with me and left it attached to USB. The test was halted when it "could not open device." I'm just praying the HD has not packed it in without warning and coincidentally being introduced to iTunes 9 for the first time. Seems this test needs a lot of power so I may have to wait until I get back to my adapter. Anyone have any thoughts? I have spent many more hours trying to get my iPod working without success. As a side when I did get the iPod to mount and reviewed with disk utility my iPod shows as "unformatted." Every effort to reformat fails with an input/output error. Does anyone else have these problem? At the moment my iPod just sits with a monochrome flashing "Do Not Disconnect." And seems to charge frequently despite that it has remained plugged into the USB port for most of the past 4 days.
