On my 1st gen touch: Since the 3.1 upgrade, when I have music playing, double clicking home still brings up music controls, but when music is not playing nothing happens. Anybody know how to fix this? I can't get music started without closing an app now.
Yes! Same here. This needs to be fixed, especially since 1st gen users have no physical volume control buttons, the double click is the only way to adjust the volume while you're in an app. Why app developers sometimes don't include a volume slider within their applications is another question.
It doesn't make perfect sense. For example, if you're in an app, you need to focus for a second so you pause your song, then you have to leave the app you're in to restart the song.
It also doesn't make sense, as somebody else pointed out, because there's no physical volume control on the 1st gen, so you have no volume control within apps that don't have built in controls.
What are you talking about?
I can do just that.
I'm well aware of no buttons as I'm using it now.
Leave it playing, turn the volume down if you need "to focus"
A A P L, you've updated to 3.1 and when you do not have music playing you can double click to bring up your ipod controls without leaving the app you're in?
"Leave it playing, turn the volume down if you need "to focus" "
That was just one example. Another is I have an app that automatically turns off music when it starts up, the only way to get music playing while using this app is to double click while there is no music playing.
I'm used to adjusting to the way products work, but this is a case where there was functionality yesterday that is gone today, for no reason. In home settings there should be an option for double clicking always bringing up "ipod controls."
Why would I ever want the home double click to open another app? Single clicking home takes me to home, the place I launch apps from. The beauty of double clicking was that it didn't take you out of the app you were in.
Seriously. I have looked at the settings. Yesterday the OS design was nearly identical. I was able to use search, get to the home screen, and launch the ipod player perfectly well. Being able to do those things with double click hasn't enhanced my user experience, and it's crippled a function I used all the time.
We have the 1st gen iPod Touch not an iPhone. In the previous OS's when you double click the home button it brings up the ipod controls. Not another app.
Sam, I've figured out a way to use the volume controls & start your music without the iPod control box. Put the iPod to sleep, turn on the screen, but don't unlock the iPod. Then double click the home button. It will allow you to play music or change the volume. You can use the slide to unlock thing after that.
A A P L, I would have to second Sam 11. I am a 1st Gen iPod Touch user, and I would much rather have it the old way. On the old system, if I wanted the music app I can double click the home button and click the music button on the window that comes up.
Anyone know how/when a fix is coming? This change is killing me!
