iTuens 9 - Recently Added all mixed up

I synced a few new songs to my iphone today and when i went to my recently added playlist on my iphone all of the songs are mixed up. It never did this before... it was always newest at the top....

FYI this is itunes 9 and OS 3.1 for the iphone.

How do i report this? We need this fixed!! So annoying!!

Just another "me too" post; I'm seeing the same problem, and would desparately like to get it fixed. I thought it was bad enough in 3.0.x that my iPhone was forcing all playlists into chronological order when I synced, instead of reflecting the current sort criteria in iTunes...but at least it was listing the correct songs!

Disabling live updating might work, but it seems like that would severely limit the usefulness of Smart Playlists (which are, in turn, one of the more useful features of iTunes). Let's get this fixed for real!

Super irritating. My "Recently Added" playlist was my go-to playlist. Now it's all jumbled and screwed up. Seems that all the songs are there, just in some bizarre, interminable order. How does Apple let stuff like this get by, what possibly could have triggered this? I have Snow Leopard, everything is up to date. iPhone 3G.

PS. The 3.1 crashed my iPhone on installation and had to be Restored. Also, it seems as though the sound output is different, not only on the speaker, but also through headphones. Grr. Supremely annoying.

I'm having the same problem with podcasts and tv shows both showing up in some random order, tried taking them off my iphone 3GS and then reinstalling them but to no avail, still just a jumbled mess. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

My smart podcast playlist seemed to be picking up the "Limit to..." option to sort in random order (but only showing this order on the Touch, not in iTunes), even though "Limit to" was not checked.

The solution for me was to changed the "selected by" option to "least recently added" (leaving "Limit to" unchecked. This gives me an old to new podcast playlist on the Touch.

I'm pretty sure that the iPhone started doing the smart playlist logic itself before 3.1. Certainly since 3.0, if not before, I've noticed that podcasts will disappear from my smart playlist with a 'play count = 0' filter when played when I'm between syncs with iTunes.

It's a pretty bad bug and coupled with the lockup issue I've had far more difficulty with 3.1 than any other iPhone software version.

I'll pile on with a "me too." I just upgraded to iTunes 9, and 3.1 on my iPhone 3G. I listen to a lot of podcasts, so I keep a smart playlist that puts my newest stuff at the top (sorted by Date Added), keeps only the items with a play count of 0, and does live updating. In previous versions of iTunes and iPhone software, the list would live update on the phone itself just fine, and of course keep the correct play order. So I believe this logic has existed on the iPhone software for awhile, since after playing a podcast in the car or wherever, it would disappear from my smart playlist.

However, now with the latest software, that same smart playlist shows up in random order (at least, I can't discern the order) on my iPhone. It appears correctly in iTunes, as others have noted. I'm assuming it has to do with the new "more flexible" options for syncing podcasts, since now there are separate options for syncing podcasts and for syncing playlists with podcasts in them. In any case, I'm frustrated because I'm used to syncing my phone, then jumping in the car or putting the dog on a leash, and just hitting my Latest playlist to hear my newest podcasts; now I have to actually sift through to find what I want.

The workaround to uncheck Live Updating works for me, but I really want that functionality. Also, I found that if I check the Limit To box and select Most Recently Added, that helps, but I end up with the list sorted in the opposite order that I want: it ends up sorted oldest-to-newest on my iPhone, but I prefer to have the newest items at the top.

I don't think it is a problem with the various iPods. I have been using an iPod classic and did upgrade not it yet I am experiencing the same issue. I have many podcasts grouped by Smart playlists sorted on my own custom comments. Both the sort order and live updating are important to me given the volume of podcasts and the length of time I sometimes want to go between re-syncs. An hour before the iTunes 9 upgrade everything worked perfectly. After the iTunes upgrade sort order in my classic is all messed up. If I turn off live updating then the playlist is empty on my ipod.

One further thing. When my ipod is plugged into iTunes 9 and I look at the iPod's smart playlist it is empty but the sorting informtion in the headers is correct. The iPod on the other had shows my entries but is very strangely sorted.
